You can advertise over the counter drugs in Ireland, but if it requires a prescription then it can only be advertised to medical professionals who have the knowledge and authority to prescribe it appropriately.
But in the USA pharmaceutical companies advertise these drugs to the general public telling them to pester their doctor about prescribing it to them.

Drug commercials are a worst. It's always somebody living their best life in a color coordinated world, and whatever the disease is a lot of times is something that less than 1 in 100k people have. That tells you how much they overcharge for their drug that it's economical for them to buy advertising space for the general audience just to reach that 0.01% of the population.
