The liquidity mirage is a trap—24h volume is noise, order book depth is truth. Volume is what’s *reported*; liquidity is what’s *real*. A $100M daily chart can be a $1M slippage nightmare. Trade where the real money sits: the first 50 BTC of depth, not the last 24 hours of hype.
Liquidity mirages aren’t just inflated numbers—they’re engineered illusions. Wash trading floods the books with self-dealing, spoofing layers fake depth with phantom orders, and synthetic volume (via rebates, bots, or cross-exchange arbitrage) disguises thin markets as robust. The real order book? Often <20% of what’s displayed.
