Ad campaigns like "don't forget to pick up your litter" or "your speakerphone may disturb other people" do not work on some people, because they simply don't care. It's not like they are unaware and the ad campaign will help them readjust, or they are unaware and don't care and are now potentially aware and don't care.

If your phone wasn't bootloader limited (locked bootloader), you could just intercept the video download and keep the copy for yourself.

That's a separate issue. One is not alternative to the other. Everything flows from the seed. It is the root. If you get poisoned there everything down stream is compromised.
