I think that what may change our views the most is our view of human nature. I believe that all humans (myself included) are prone to corruption and that the accumulation of power amplifies that inherent tendency. Since institutions are made up of human actors, they will always become more corrupt and stray from their purpose and become self interested. Thus a perfect civilization will never be achieved. Various heights can be obtained but will decay. Containment is key.

I use cultural because if considered on a global, historical level, sometimes institutions never develop. Polity progresses some places and doesn't others. Something(s) fuel it something(s) stifle it. Once it develops other stuff seems to tend to corrupt it.

I actually think there is some truth to it. Particularly in highly developed civilizations. But it seems that its opposite in civilizations where it appears absent in the aggregate level. This seems true, inspite of some of those less developed civilizations being highly social. So I think there is some element (maybe hidden) that comes into play.

So what? The vast majority of that number of people classified as in poverty, is transient. I was counted in that number for several years, now Im rich and know many other people that have experienced the same. Plus poverty is relative. Compared to many places in the world the poor in the US live pretty well. Our biggest problem is insufficient care for the mentally ill or drug addicts, this leads to a problem with street people in some areas.

The countries of Europe have been benefiting from selling in the US market for many years, while at the same time putting up regulatory and financial barriers, blocking the reverse. the EU is far more dependant on the US market than the reverse. It only makes sense for Trump to use that leverage so that trade is more favorable to the US, especially now that the EU is dependant on US energy. Froma business standpoint the US should extract as much as possible from the EU.

There's no way to divide people by intelligence. We'd end up with corrupt/stupid people deciding who should vote. Some people have hi IQ's and can learn at stunning rates and retain a staggering percentage of what they have learned, but have terrible judgment and make bad choices. Others learn slowly but have very sound judgement. Some are smart but too lazy to stay informed.
So the only way to do it, is by success in life. I.E. only property owners, or high earners (problematic)

There are some brain differences that show up in MRI's of people with schizophrenia as compared to people without it. Some people have it worse than others. I know 2 people with it. 1 was able to compensate without medicine for many years. Ocaisionally he would struggle to determine if something was real or not, and would ask somebody he trusted. In his early fifites, he lost this ability. The other person wasn't able to function without meds. She'd try but would become catatonic.

Just before I turned 10, we moved away. I went to visit him once and he came to visit me once, in the year that followed, but them we moved even further away and that was that.
Later I found out that he had become a democrat politician, so I decided that the nuns were much worse and was really glad that hadn't happend to me.

We moved alot when I was growing up, so friends were transient things. For 3 years we lived in one house. My best friend lived across the street. Outside of school, you would likely find us together, getting into trouble. We went to different schools. From what we could tell, the most significant difference was that his school had nuns that whacked your knuckles with a ruler, at least once per week. I have changed careers 2x, both changes required learning new things and moving. In fact, I have worked in 11 different cities in 7 different states and one foriegn country. Not being willing to move would have been a major disadvantage, and constantly striving to learn new things produces a major advantage. That being said, I am no longer willing to move, but it's ok, I'm almost finished.

Many years ago, I used to program. I've forgotten a lot and much has changed. I now find myself in a position where I need to do some of it. So I consulted with AI to brush me up on some changes and help with things I couldn't remember. It was very helpful but, I would have preferred it be all business. I mostly agree, in principle we basically have moderated rationing by price. However, I think it would be better if employers were out of it. i also think it would be better if health maintainance was seperate from health insurance. By insuring routine preventative stuff, we are just driving up the cost of it in 2 ways. 1. we are adding a cut for insurance companies, and 2. we are eliminiting the price control pressure that people shopping around for it, would provide.

The question that needs to be asked, but never seems to be, is What is the best way to ration healthcare? Since it isn't an unlimited rescource, it has to be rationed in some way. This can be done by limiting access via waiting lists, or restricting level of coverage, or by price, or some other means.
in consideration of what means things to consider are, 1. will the method of choice stifle innovation or make the field unappealing to practicioners, causing a shorgate?.....

Ha, I once used an old breadbox for a speaker housing. It actually worked pretty well.
I think that fixing things might make a comeback. My son and his friends, are in their 20s and are really into repair and modification. They all purchased old cars that they could fix themselves. My son built a server, that works great all from scraps he got for free.
