18 holes of golf with the wife in Idaho. Sat down at the 19th hole next to a table of 8-10 guys, all 60-70 maybe. Talking about a 20 year old girl who works at the golf club. Gutter mouth stuff. Loud about it, laughing, like it was clever. Boners and all.
I almost stood up. Wife right next to me. Wanted to ask them if they’d talk that way about their own granddaughter. Didn’t. Guys like that don’t hear you mid laugh, they just get louder for the table.
This is some of what we inherited from that generation. Along with the work ethic and the grit, we got men who never got told no and never grew out of needing to.
Not interested in being loud and small at 70, mistaking volume for respect.
Talk about women right when they’re not in the room. Don’t laugh along at the next table. That’s most of the job. Most men fail it quiet. Don’t.

Slavery in Scripture is never treated lightly. It’s the very image God uses for Israel’s condition in Egypt, and the deliverance He worked is the pattern for redemption itself.
But the Bible also warns of a subtler bondage. “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender” (Prov 22:7). No chains, no auction block, just a system where debt and a currency that loses value by design keep men working for masters they never see.
We were bought with a price (1 Cor 6:20). That’s true spiritually first. But it should shape how we think about money, debt, and what freedom actually costs.

The founders built the system already knowing the people running it would eventually go bad. So they baked into the blueprint on purpose.
I’m not loyal to a party. Parties change costumes every four years and act like it matters. What doesn’t change is a machine that keeps growing no matter who’s holding the wheel, one that’s started treating citizens like a liability instead of the reason it exists.
Reagan said it better than I can:
“You don’t become American by getting a visa and a Social Security card. Anybody can do that. You become American by understanding and embracing the values that made this country great: freedom, personal responsibility, faith, family, and patriotism.”
That’s what I’m actually loyal to. Not a building. Not a title. Not a badge on somebody in Washington. The values underneath all of it.
If it ever comes down to defending those values from the people who are supposed to be protecting them, that’s a line I’ve already drawn for myself.
