Last Notes npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek don't get me wrong, it was quick and wrote some descent code, but then i had spend ours fixing CI workflows it couldn't get right so i went back to 5.3. npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek 5.3 flash is pretty bad from my testing, are you sure? npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek added a migrating from other bootc distros (silverblue/bluefin/bazzite/etc) doc to kuma...building 0.19.0 now with some additional partitioning options.
https://github.com/Letdown2491/kuma-linux/blob/main/docs/moving.md npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek interesting, been using them for years and never had an issue not without a respond in 24 hours. npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek anyone here have any experiences with Framework laptops? considering maybe making a purchase if the build quality is good. npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek i've been using linux as my main and only since 2005 (aside from 2 years of macos) so it's been the year of the linux desktop for me for a long time 😃 npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek don't listen to this heathen 😂 npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek yeah nothing wrong with mint npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek i wonder if it's a popos issue and not a cosmic one. those don't sound like things the desktop environment should have control over. npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek mint runs great, i'm glad it exists. npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek cosmic still a bit buggy so i can see it. npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek probably true npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek sure why not 😃 https://geek.blossom.band/3a5ca95570544fc8059362550a505b9a3f14e502db851f82f30f751df2444fe1.jpg npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek i love finding someone else that uses and understands this stuff. Thanks @npub1sce…q7fu, you rock. npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek no drift in kuma 😃 npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek yeah you still update, only difference is that built in packages (rpms in bootc's case) are rolled into the base so you need to rebuild and reboot into the new image (it's a bootable container after all). that's why these distros generally use flatpaks for user-facing apps and brew for cli apps as they are kept out of the base image and can be updated at any point like normal. it's pretty straightforward really and solves quite a few problems. npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek agreed. i've been on and off silverblue since it first came on the scene, and have been playing with bluefin for a bit. npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek yeah kuma is just a binary you can point a config file to. it does use fedora bootc as the base but could theoretically do it for any distro. in fact, i have a second unreleased version that does it with void linux as a base. No need to download ISOs either.
it also handles maintenance (updates, builds, making isos of a running system, system rollbacks, and much more). and thanks for checking it out 😃 npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek love what you've been doing lately on lnvps. keep up the great work! npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek hot take but i like it npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek it does, but the meme is too good npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek saw this on reddit and it triggered so many people (even linux mint and nix users) that i just had to share it here. https://geek.blossom.band/1b0192651c837b193ec69fe46f8787dc118b293d53da2c533cab3f699f3b5d1d.webp npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek what an asshole npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek tldr, a fedora bootc distro with elements of nix.
full explanation, it's a declarative, immutable, and atomic distro...all you need is the 5mb binary and you can create your own declaration (simple text config) of what you want in your distro then it builds it, lets you install it, run it in a vm, create your own iso, etc and the system can be configured/controlled/updated/etc from the same binary. npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek v0.18.0 of Kuma is probably the last beta release before 1.0 in October. there's a couple things i might add before then but probably won't warrant it's own release.

https://github.com/Letdown2491/kuma-linux
- Built on Fedora’s bootable container technology (bootc) where system updates are handled like OCI container images. Updates are atomic, predictable, and virtually impossible to break mid-install.
- Declarative "Nix-Style" build philosophy: Rather than manually tweaking settings over time, your entire system configuration is defined upfront. You get the reproducibility of NixOS without having to learn a custom DSL or give up standard Fedora binaries.
- Instead of shipping with a heavy desktop environment, it defaults to Niri, a modern, scrollable-tiling Wayland compositor written in Rust (Cosmic available as well).
- Includes tailored Rust utilities to streamline OS configuration, image building, check system health, and more. https://blossom.geektoshi.tech/c9ba7e5396e8eebfda97da2ff963d3ea1e885ddd36a6045605d9d605d7adcbcc.png npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek Been daily driving my own distro for the past week and it's finally coming alive. Best thing is, I can develop it while using it, then updating is just a couple commands (kuma build && kuma switch) and due to how it's developed, I can put it on any machine without an ISO. Beta soon I think, still needs some tweaking. https://blossom.geektoshi.tech/ca2d33aea9869659df3bd542f729efe5f63632883de27c46f81eff0b9aef4d6b.png npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek Dang what's with all the fiatjaf hate lately? or am i just now seeing it? npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek lol so good and so true npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek right npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek cool idea! npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek just keep making the best soap sir 😃 npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek SoapMiner soap cures mental illness, guaranteed

#nevent1q…4q2l npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek this is actually one of the most useful bits of criticism I've seen from someone who's having real issues. Usually, it's just "this sucks, I'm out" so thanks for that. I don't disagree with any of your points, and from my past experiences, they all just boil down to the same problem, relays, which even a good signer cannot fix.
i think everyone always gets "suckered" into trying the latest and greatest instead of using something that is just simple and works. i make and use all my own tools for this exact reason. i won't share links because frankly it would be counter to your point of "it should just work for everybody" and normal users would never have the time or often knowledge to set up their own signers/relays/blossom servers/even clients (of which i made them all).
I do take what you say to heart and it is what inspires me when i do my own thing. i don't have "the right answers" and i definitely don't have the mindshare from others who have been around here longer so i do expect my stuff to always be niche. and i know it doesn't help you now, but there are definitely folks out there who are building stuff to address exactly your concerns that just don't get the attention they deserver such as @npub19ma…axkl @npub1q6m…x7d5 and others. npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek yes, it starts with keys npub1m2jphmdkskgnvwl5gplksl9e0zwv2sldqf9mwlpz6tyymz84g9fsqr3wgu Geek dont forget you can always buy the reusable bags...which are made of plastic
