Interesting project. I've never messed with that board before. If other people haven't seen it and the 3v3 doesn't come up on battery I'd start suspecting a bad voltage regulator. Usually they just go pop altogether though. Never seen a partial or single input fail.

I infer from my other knowledge about waves in general that the closer you are to the cause of the surge the faster the rise and fall of the surge voltage and current. The farther you are the more the resistance and impedance of the conductors along the path causes it to be a lower peak longer duration wave.
Kinda crazy how known lightning storms with blown electronics can trip breakers in one place but not another. Different dirt and rock properties? That is definitely into the realm where I am smart enough to know that I couldn't even begin to model all the relevant variables at that level.
My type 1 goes right on the rails of my panel, no breaker. It just snaps into place taking up 2 breaker slots. I wonder if adding one would reduce other breaker trips for you? My type 2 is on a 30a double pole breaker with the shortest leads I could manage to the breaker. I wonder if the breaker it is on would trip for you?

I had a bunch of stuff nuked a few months back that led me to learn all this and start making changes. 0 breakers tripped in the whole house. My bet is @nprofile…jejf also had no breaker trips.
The Clankers say breakers are milliseconds at their best, lightning is microseconds, MOVs are nanoseconds.
I'm aware of the issue of declaring success, only that I haven't lost anything since adding my type 1 and type 2. Could be luck could be design success. Also that no system will protect you from direct hits.

My type 1 is a hom250pspd but this is direct plug on rails and only works with some panels. My type 2 is a Siemens boltshield fspd140. Tripp-lite or isobar for type 3 depending on my level of give a shit. For highest level of give a shit there is an AVR UPS behind that.

Also ohms law applies and power isn't one thing. Breakers trip on high current events, MOVs in a surge arrestor kick in during high voltage events. Different properties of the power. 100kv at 1a will never ever trip the 200a breaker to your house. It will let the magic smoke out of all your stuff.
That is in addition to the response times of MOVs being much faster than breakers so even if current climbs when the voltage climbs, the duration of the surge from something like a lightning strike is too brief to trip a breaker.

First of all, surge arrestors are consumable items. Each surge uses them up a little. You need to regularly check the "protected" light on critical surge protectors to make sure it hasn't been used up and stopped protecting you.
Next. There are 3 types of surge suppression you could run in your house. Each type targets a different type of surge, speed of the voltage rise varies from surge to surge. A point of use device like a UPS or power strip is a type 3, it has the lowest clamp voltage but also needs the surges to be less than a certain voltage before it can really protect you. The Isobar line is the best in class here, one in front of your UPS is probably a good idea.
Type 1 and type 2 generally are whole house devices wired or connected directly into your main breaker panel. Those 2 are the devices that will work together to clamp surge voltages to something your type 3 device can manage. The best for you here depends on who made your breaker panel. One of mine is made by Siemens and one by the manufacturer of my panel. Both cost me $300 ish total for parts, I did my own installs.
This is surge only, voltage going high. Voltage going low can also fry electronics. That is why a quality UPS that has AVR (automatic voltage regulation) and working batteries is also important for sensitive electronics. It uses the power stored in the batteries to keep the device voltage high when the house voltage dips.
Check your lights on all devices regularly and make sure your batteries haven't failed. Check the outlets to make sure they are wired correctly. At that point if you still find yourself having problems have additional ground rods added to your home wiring.

Racks aren't magic. Even if you contain yourself to the rack you have to understand that the rack can be its own mess. Cable management is a real challenge. I've been hired before just to redo a rack because it was such a mess people were afraid to touch it.

My 3d printer, an old creality bed slinger, is dying. I'm not interested in putting more money into something so outdated and failure prone. Looking to upgrade and figured I'd #asknostr for recommendations.
I'm not interested in any printer that requires a cloud or phone home of any kind. No one who has even a whiff of bending the knee for any anti right to repair or other government control of 3d printers. Voting for freedom with my wallet.
I think that is pointing to the Sovol sv08 since I'm not able to dedicate the time or money to a true Voron build. Also I don't currently have a working printer to make parts for a DIY build. Anyone able to recommend a better choice? Sv08 problems that make it worth avoiding?

AI doesn't have access to either of those systems (that I know of).
I don't think anyone knows what will break or how yet.
Gitignore and secrets files won't let them in, assuming you used those files correctly by pre AI standards. What they will do is give them tools to spread and set up persistence once they are in. That was true of human hackers too but the speed AI will find them and figure out how to use the data in them is unreal compared to a human.

I don't use mac or windows because of the politics of those corporations, though those politics also show up in the design of their hardware and software. I'm not aware of any way DHH's personal politics affect his software, though I don't use it so I wouldn't know.
For me, I think the out of nowhere publicity blitz and cash being thrown around is suspicious as fuck. I've done well in life by steering clear of red flags like that and I don't intend to stop now. The marginal value of switching to his downstream spin of another distro (no distinct package manager just a specific configuration and package pre selection of Arch) is so low that the risk isn't worth it.
Doesn't matter if the spin is good, I don't want to be part of the install base or download count that helps mask whatever fraud or money laundering scheme it looks like is going on. Even if it is just good ole boys club splashing out cash to make their buddies rich, fuck that.
