So set your relay policy how you like. Nobody's telling you how to set your policy. Libbitcoin's run wide open since 2011 though. And LibreRelay is too. Core backed off their gentleman's agreement because it wasn't stopping anything but was hurting mempool visibility.
You can still set datacarriersize how you like though. It won't work any more now than it did in 2024 but you can do it.

It's not more expensive. There's a blocksize limit. And jpegs take LESS compute as there's less opcodes per block.
Meanwhile, 110 does nothing to prevent the moral/legal hazard because jpegs are still trivial to embed. See https://knotslies.com for an example including the example code.

Observing doesn't quite capture it I think, but running is also sort of vague as it requires actually looking at the procedures in the code to derive what it'll do. And advertising isn't really accurate as discussed.
Honestly if it were just this case we're talking about, "threatening" might be the most accurate. And actually given that a UASF always works by some sort of threat it may actually not be the worst terminology -- 148 was still at the end of the day a BIP that worked by threatening to enforce its rules and cause a chainsplit if any blocks didn't comply. It was never enforced because the miners adopted BIP-91, whose enforcement caused BIP-148 not to have any candidate blocks to discard.
Probably too much value judgements around the word threatening but it does seem like an accurate term -- not sure if any cases can be found when it wouldn't be.

Gemini is a bit at a loss to give me much clarification other than to agree that signaling and enforcing would both be inaccurate. They could be said to be advertising if it is mentioned in their version string, though, presumably one could both be awaiting activation and not actually advertising it (whether this is the case for any nodes is probably unlikely but possible). You might get to define it as observing if you'd like, or they're just "running BIP-110" as they are at the very least running the code that monitors for its activation, at which point they'd begin enforcing.

I mean, Datum is fairly neutral being a protocol (and not a wallet). Ocean's recent move to make their default Stratum endpoint default to 110 was clearly an underhanded desperate move but I'd still personally not actually be opposed if only because as far as I'm aware it's them or you're mining someone else's block template. And again, still not a wallet/signer. Knots, well, yea, that makes sense. You can run it without 110 and it's FOSS but at the same time...why?
But yea, curious of others that may actually tilt things in the way Trezor, Ledger, and Mycelium did over BIP-148 by directing more users to their nodes and thus raising the economic/merchant weight of them.

Technically Knots is a wallet too (bitcoin-cli) though in practice usage here would be a very small minority. Bitcoin-cli is the most versatile wallet out there but its UX has been described as a 'war crime' by at least one musician I've come across. Doesn't exactly match with the start9 approach to node running.

Ahh, I have a coldcard but wouldn't actually buy any signer again I think. Airgapped laptops are cheaper and far more versatile. And seedsigners give your portability.

I try to avoid "providers" wherever possible as is. I guess on my phone I do make use of Olympus by Zeus for Lightning (because if not them it'd just be some other Lightning node(s) and they're not doing anything stupid I'm aware of), but otherwise it's my node, my electrum server, my open source local software.
Bitcoin doesn't need middlemen.

Oh it's fun in the little boats. Especially practicing dry capsizing where you jump over the rail as it goes over so you can stand on the centerboard, only to jump back in as it starts flipping back over. Also just riding the edge just short of flipping hanging on by the toe with your whole body outside the boat to weigh it down (or just straight up using the trapeze...).

Wouldn't mind sailing again. Been over 20 years since I did – used to race 420's and the occasional Bluejay. Never did sail one quite this big, but the little ones were fun because of how tuned you had to be on keeping them from flipping (not to mention how fun the occasional flip could be, at least as long as it was a boat with air tanks).
Having a fixed keel just feels like cheating.

Well...vaults would protect us from a wrench attack. But we need covenants to do those in a sovereign way.
Timelocked multisig is the best option we have for now, with off site storage. Pretty accessible with Liana, though of course figuring out WHERE to store those keys offsite can be the hard part. As well as backing up passphrases (which are usually best practice when storing keys offsite just in case someone stumbles upon your seed phrase).
I suppose even vaults make it so a particularly determined attacker is just incentivized to hold you hostage for longer while waiting out the vault, and of course, threatening your safety in the event you partner with a third party to initiate the clawback procedure. They'd likely make attacks less common but potentially more gruesome when they do occur.
Hard to ever get past the best defense of never letting anyone know how much you actually own. And being a really reckless boat captain.

148 was also a credible threat. A large amount of miners signaling for 141 made a sustained chainsplit believable. Meanwhike 110'ers openly talk about coming back if it fails to upgrade the main chain. Including Bob Burnett.
Anyone pretending these are analogous situations is larping, misinformed, or proferring misinformation. Or some combination of the above.
If you want to abandon Bitcoin for a new coin and understand that the only way it'll work is with a PoW adjustment, run 110. If your goal is to be a Bitcoiner, look for more realistic options. It is your choice. Rejecting reality is not one that can last long.

Just to clarify -- the full public key does, right?
Very nuanced herehere, but it just does seem that if you have a full public key the private key exists but is simply unknown, which is not quite the same in the case of say, the unlikely scenario of quantum supremacy, or some other case where the secp256k1 irreversibility ends up broken.
Not a knock as I think this is unavoidable with any nested key scheme. Saw Nadav Kohen give a talk on it at MIT's Bitcoin Expo this year and understood maybe 10%.

If they have no incentive to activate then it's not clear why they ever would. The whole point of a UASF is to exert leverage on the miners.

All right I'd better be working off some karma with this nonsense. My kid's flight just got changed for a third time, after two delays. It's now back to the original time but to a further away airport.
The universe is telling me that going to work tomorrow just isn't in the cards I think. Keep getting woken up trying to sleep early by these changes and I already took a few hours of PTO in the morning because fuck not sleeping and getting up at 0430 to work a 10 hour shift while sick.

Miners ignoring it will. Or, rather, will cause it to chainsplit. If enough of them ignore it that chainsplit may as well be a death sentence unless there's a PoW adjustment to speed up block creation.

Yea -- even below the carp, who do USUALLY stick by the bottom (though I have known some to flyfish for them, which is just baffling to me). I guess really carp are just water pigs.

Everytime I went carp fishing at best I caught a catfish. Caught a snapping turtle once (that was a bit sketchy til it bit through the hook). Believe I hooked a carp once but forgot to set the drag on the reel and it just dragged my rod into the water when it ran. Got it back a few months later after a storm washed it up on the riverbank. Sort of serves me right carp fishing with a bass reel...

Those industry players were in many cases involved with BIP-148. If none of them find 110 of interest, then it's probably not an idea that makes much sense for the future of the money they've chosen to do business with. You might not need a majority, but you need at least enough to make the miners think twice about just letting y'all fork off.

Yes, actually. Because there's zero reason why miners would listen to a handful of loud small users when the vast majority of economic activity and value that pays their paycheck comes from other players. If those users would rather fork off, then they're free to do so, but the idea that miners would continue serving them despite demands that go against the miners interest is not a prospect I'd ever expect them to accede to.
Bitcoin is money. People are going to be cutthroat about it, and populism alone isn't going to sway anything unless there's economic weight behind it. It's not in any way shape or form a democracy, thank God.

I think if y'all had gotten say, Block, Coinbase, or even Strike, River, or one or a few of the big LSP's you'd possibly have a bit more attention from the miners. That, or even just some big whales who made it clear they'd be dumping their Bitcoin for the forked coin in the event of a chainsplit. Having blocks thrown out by people who aren't actually a major impact on the demand for blockspace you create anyway is not the biggest motivator.

It's pretty important information because it indicates that for all the fanfare about BIP-148 it was starting from a stance where many miners were already onboard, rather than the <1% in the case of 110. Indicating that the chainsplit, rather than being one thriving and one DOA, would have been a substantial split where both chains actually produced blocks (albeit both of them substantially slower for a little while until they hit a difficulty adjustment). There's also the matter of the rationale for objecting to Segwit having been something a lot more trivial, given the firmware based advantage Bitmain had with covert AsicBoost, rather than turning away a large portion of fee paying transactions at the request of a loud minority of nodes which don't account for a large portion of the economic activity on Bitcoin (thus neither generating a large number of fees nor placing a particularly large bid under the asset -- effectively being negligible in the event that they split off, and also mostly likely to just give up and return to the main chain when they do).
And the website isn't new; he just has that redirect url to get to that dashboard to save time as it has been one of his more popular ones.

The only case where it could cause issues is in the event that somehow the longest chain starts off as non-110 and then flips to 110 somehow.
But yes, it's safer than being on the one that is far more likely to be a dead shitcoin.
If you're worried avoid transacting for a few hours around activation just to be sure. Or, send your tx's in that time period with an op_if or an 84 byte op_return so they aren't replayable on the 110 chain if by some miracle it wins.
They're not even at 1% though -- I sleep easy.

I assume you've read Lyn Alden's books already (if not, that seems to be the obvious choice).
Most anything by Daniel Suarez I think is required reading for Bitcoiners -- particularly Daemon and Freedom given how much they relate to decentralized autonomous technology in an economic light. He's not on Nostr (yet), but perhaps I'll go remind him we're still here (he's on Twitter).
I haven't read it yet but have it on my shelf, @nprofile…g2cl published Praxaeology of Privacy entirely on Nostr for free; you can find it in his long form content or on his site. It is of course available for hardcopy purchase. Definitely non-fiction.
And then I particularly like @nprofile…lscy He can be a little polarizing and I'm sure he won't mind my saying so (he wrote an article called "Why you should sell your Bitcoin," after all), but I enjoyed Bushido of Bitcoin anyway. He's got plenty of shorter stuff on substack if you're not familiar (or sure if you're interested in committing to long form). Wondering what it's gonna take to get him to follow up on the fiction story he began at the end of Bushido given his sabbatical from the Internet.

As for money and alternative use cases, I can't say that I follow that logic. Use cases do indeed cause there to be other impacts upon the price of money, but they don't reduce that value. Rather, they add demand (and using those things as money makes them less capable of responding to supply and demand in their arena, as we see with housing). The monetary premium may decline on a net percentage basis, but not on a gross basis. Someone using gold to make circuits doesn't detract from gold being used as money, but someone using gold as money sure makes it less accessible to be used as circuits. I don't concede that silver was demonetized by being useful industrially; I would argue the opposite -- silver got used industrially because it was able to be mined more cheaply. Fees could crowd out some monetary use, but I'd contend that Bitcoin as money has a lot more demand than jpegs do, and if it didn't, THAT'd be something worth reconsidering my whole framework around.
And regarding nodes, you're right that the notion of economic (merchant) nodes is not particularly one that can be measured just looking at them (especially because they're not exactly trying to broadcast that data about themselves anyway). It's more that the PEOPLE signalling that they will discard blocks matter. Whether through their own node, or by choosing to use someone else's node that does it for them is largely irrelevant. The leverage comes because miners care how much the Bitcoin they mine is worth -- they care a lot more if Michael Saylor is going to jump to another chain than they care if someone who is just holding a few thousand sats they got playing games on ZBD. Even though Saylor may not even run a node, and the ZBD pleb may have a full archival node with 100% uptime. One of them is putting significant demand on the finite Bitcoin the miners are being rewarded with; the other is not.
I'd also not concede that the price of Bitcoin has anything to do with BIP-110, Core 30, or any of that, at least in any recognizable form. The macro backdrop Bitcoin is operating in right now is night and day from the first 10 years of its life, characterized by quantitative easing and fiscal stimulus particularly in the early 2020s. The dollar is being constrained heavily right now particularly after the move off of LIBOR to SOFR, and while there is some balance sheet expansion (reserve management purchases) it's more as a pressure relief valve as the screws are put on the Eurodollar banks, rather than a turn around in overall liquidity. For what it's worth, I also don't tend to view the 4 year cycle as the best indicator, and have been looking more at Stephen Perrenod's math and modeling around harmonics relative to the power law trend, which, like the power law itself, operate in log time. The four year cycle seems built on the premise of the halvings, which simply don't have the weight they used to. Furthermore, they conveniently ignore the 2011 bull run, which Perrenod's work doesn't -- the fundamentals just make more sense to me, even if the math is admittedly a lot more to wrap one's head around. Getting to the point, his framework has us not in a bear market (or 2025 in a bull market) but rather this being some out of phase subharmonics, leading up to the first real bull run since 2017 coming next year. This may be a bit of astrology for men, and I'm not going around trading on it, but suffice to say I'm not sitting here wondering what's broken having expected the 4 year cycle to play out like it had. Even if Perrenod's work is nonsense, Lyn's pointed out quite well that any model that becomes apparent and trusted enough stops working as people start trading on it.
Anyway, I'm here less to throw shit at you and more to say it's not nearly as hopeless as your narrative has it or at least to share my perspective. Though yea, I'm not gonna promise not to be a punk about it ;-).

The Amateur Extra license, otoh, is notoriously difficult. Don't feel like you gotta go there, especially out of the gate. They just sort of get their own VIP bandwidth and bragging rights.

I haven't really been studying for the General but should start. I studied for the Technician for like an hour a day for a week and passed though. I hear General isn't too bad but a little more involved -- I had started trying based on the github for this book but it was missing graphics and just was a bit too hard to keep up given the gaps. Also...I don't have any any budget for equipment anyway.
Hambook is great though as a free resource from my experience with technician, and https://hamstudy.org is a fantastic tool with practice questions and full practice exams so you can really know you're gonna pass when it comes time to test. And you can test on zoom these days -- I decided to test roughly an hour and a half before I took my original test, and it cost me $5.
Basically, just do it already :-).

Got a few options (which is how most things on Nostr go). Wavlake is probably the easiest -- they do take 10% of zaps for overhead but are a very established platform.
You can also publish to any RSS feed that supports podcast namespace extensions. More about that here: https://v4vmusic.com/pages/about.
Then there's https://ditto.pub/music which will point you to nodecast, sunami, or zaptrax as hosting methods.
As far as sharing it with us goes, just hosting via these methods makes it available on these platforms that all do use nostr signin options (as well as other alternatives). I'd say throwing links to your content in notes never hurts either as most nostr clients aren't going to put music front and center (ditto being one of the few I know that really features it in a built in way, and even that's a bit down a list of everything else it supports...which is nearly everything).

That UASF didn't actually activate though. The miners decided it wasn't worth a chainsplit because of the economic weight of the nodes that had activated.
And 90%? Curious when you'd point to for that; BIP-148 was getting 22% of blocks per signaling period in December and it went up from there.
Miners can absolutely be swayed by nodes. But they're swayed by nodes with more economic weight. Merchant nodes. When it's a bunch of start9's run by people who aren't transacting and most of whom admit they'll not be standing by the fork when it happens, there's no reason the miners would change their course. Nobody's talking about selling their BTC to buy the resultant forked coin, and the chatter about a PoW change to keep the fork alive has been admittedly minimal. 10 exahash (and certainly dropping once the rewards drop off precipitously in market value and no longer pay the cost to rent) leaves that chain taking ~3 years to reach its first difficulty adjustment without one.
Also, if 90% of miners opposed BIP-110, it'd mean BIP-110 had increased its support more than 10 fold at this point.
At the end of the day I don't have any skin in this game. I just see a lot of people being whipped up into a fervor of fear around a problem that is likely blown out of proportion, and worse, around a "solution" to it that isn't. I don't see it likely that you can ever prevent jpgs and other spam entirely in a low fee environment. You can of course lower the blocksize, to limit the fidelity of said jpegs, and to raise the average fees by reducing the supply of blockspace (and perhaps we should -- the raise with Segwit was something of a compromise with the big blockers anyway, and we have more proven out layers now). But rallying around moving data from one place in the block to another and convincing people its an existential issue has been peak silliness.

The more I'm looking at it, the more I'm starting to think my browser may be causing traffic from me to look weird. I just noticed that a poll I filled out on my phone 20 minutes ago was showing as available to vote on on my browser. Using Brave Origin, and none of my extensions are TOO wild (I've trimmed down a lot from a few years ago when accessing any site for the first time was an ordeal), but it does clearly seem to be interacting with twitter in some weird ways across devices.
Annoying I can't appeal the label like you can appeal an outright ban. But this is why we nostr.

You could do far worse than to just use the knowledge lectures of the various grades of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn for an intro. It'll have been how Crowley, Dion Fortune, Israel Regardie, AE Waite, Samuel Macgregor-Mathers, and quite a few other of the famed Victorian Era occultists got their basics down.
