Yea I know the antiklepto is the dark Skippy mitigation. The airgap is the mitigation to avoid placing excessive trust in the wire. I can audit a psbt on an SD card (or ideally a floppy, with no firmware to be compromised) but reliably watching thathard connection is harder. Especially if the monitoring tools are running on a computer which itself may be compromised.
Lack of an airgap has always been my issue with Bitbox and their points against it have never been convincing. An airgap isn't a silver bullet but it is a bullet, and if we can keep it in the mix while making use of other munitions we should.
Honestly surprised they haven't made this possibility more front and center. Too many hardware signers are caught up in how easy they can make things for their customers. As those who lost coins from Coldcard how glad they are they included the easy button to generate keys that they didn't have to figure out dice rolling right now.
Security trumps ease when the product itself is literally a security product.

My kid's off to college in a few days. Just waiting to see if he lasts or not. Fingers super crossed about who hr meets those first few days because he's got some far less than good influence friends here but I think could do well with the right crowd.
Hate saying its all ties up in other people but given his background it's just the reality. Foster care and adoption come with their own challenges to accept.

And yes, realizing economic weight means that the fiat rich can use that to throw weight around is hard. Satoshi didn't ignore this though. Its why the coins were so rapidly dispersed at the beginning before they could notice. People may sell to them, and are more than I love, but it comes at higher costs than we sometimes remember. The best way to fight the suits is to stack, get your neighbors stacking, and don't sell to the parasites.
But...once they have coins, they are market participants, and you don't get to tell them they're second class citizens. Any more than you get to tell the silk road fentanyl dealer or the backpage hooker who are both now filthy rich how to live. That's sovereign property rights at play.
The 110 side always seemed to want to talk like this but with a more collectivist ethos. Freedom is a lot messier.

I'm curious: can you run a Bitbox02 signer to sign on a computer which itself is airgapped? I get dark skippy makes the direct airgap an issue, but curious if the additional device being airgapped may let you have your cake and eat it too.
I'll have to look more into this. It may turn this into an acceptable option after all.
Multisig can also be a good mitigation but multi device single sig isn't something we usually consider.

I did get some clarification here. Running a node --offline is different than turning off the node. It still does onchain enforcement. It just doesn't allow peer connections.
You're basically turning your node into its own watchtower.
It's wild that Blockstream hasn't really put out a more comprehensive and clear statement on this. That we're pulling things apart from a discord screenshot and some half baked articles is a bit nuts.
Guess that's why we have LND...

Looks like the answer there is "no."
Not sure if it makes sense to think about for people but just throwing it out there, but IF you have the time to set up a watchtower before you turn the node off, then you can avoid theft indefinitely, as long as that watchtower is reliably online. Your channels may of course get force closed, but you won't get stolen from as the watchtower will enforce the justice transaction if theft is attempted.

If you haven't read it, Mastering the Lightning Network was a good read to really understand a good chunk of the system. First half is the how to, second is the how it works. There's even super easy docker stuff if you wanna get going quick but if I know you you're gonna be slow and methodical.
Lightning Terminal is very useful for managing a node in any case.

I'm going to be keeping a closer eye on SOFR-IORB for awhile. The difference turned positive last October, in lockstep with Bitcoin's dump. This difference reflects dysfunction in repo markets and a liquidity squeeze, as SOFR is usually a small spread below IORB, being a secured rate. Bessents buybacks seem geared at putting these rates back in the order they should be in, and expand private formation of capital (money printer go brrr).
This particular metric may be the first indicator. Curious if it flips or bitcoin notices first.

I don't discount its a possibility.
But even this suggests such incompetence, because dark Skippy would have enabled them to booby trap the devices without leaving the door open for any asshat that noticed the address space was constrained. AI made it easier to find but it wasn't strictly necessary. That later models half fixed it also is a head scratcher.
I'm still leaning to gross incompetence and criminal negligence. The code runs right in an emulator and wrong on silicon. They were notably sloppy about a lot.
I do appreciate the research you're doing though. If nothing else it gives us a picture of just what sort of nonsense we're looking at.

Wait is the Pi version Alpine based too? Thats awesome if so. I gotta check out what you've got going on. Alpine looked crazy for dealing with compiler and libc reasons for what I was looking at putting together so I am currently working on a raspberry pi os lite based build. Just got delayed as I realized I needed a microhdmi cable. Also looking at system integrity checking. Got a kludgey idea of ripping the IMG file from my set up to keep a checksum of it to verify before burning fresh before every sign. Wear on the SD card but you get cryptographic proof it's unmolested. Or maybe looking at secure boot. Nothing quite looks perfect but playing with integrity checks.

Just had Grok make me a coat of arms based on my profile. Did some weird things with the Palestinian flag (married it to the pirate flag as I have both in my profile). I'll try to find some time to read more of this tomorrow in any case. And for what it's worth I think the craving for this is why there's the push to bring Myspace back. It wasn't the put together story you got on Myspace. It was the picture you took in the camera against a dirty mirror with the flash, and the mess of html you threw together to express whatever you wanted to. Not to overly glamorize Myspace; I'm old enough to remember that it wasn't a utopia too. But I think it's what people are yearning for against the vacuity that modern social media promises. Heck at least Twitter just promises you a mosh pit of stupidity, which is leaps and bounds better than you'll find on Instagram or Facebook.
With Nostr we get it in a yet more organic way. And that's not something I take for granted.

Nice! I'm in the process of setting up an airgapped raspberry pi 4 (it used to be my node, but in lieu of a UPS I've since just moved the node back to my desktop and have it just syncing nightly to avoid filesystem corruption from power failures). Sounds like you made yours more user friendly than I'm bothering with.
Did you take steps to disable any networking interfaces? Curious what that entirely looks like and how it differs to play with on a laptop than on something like a pi where the hardware is all 100% known ahead of time.
I almost like doing something myself though -- makes it that much less likely someone's gonna just throw together a doctored SD card that'll be similar enough that I won't notice but malicious enough to do anything. Seedsigner is great but if someone wants to hit you with a malicious SD card it's not THAT hard to swap out the malicious SD card and leave you none the wiser. Good luck knowing the list of changes I make to my system...

I think I would have done some wild things to various batteries I found to see what I could make them power...and right about now if I were you would be looking at portable solar panels and what it takes to make a bike pedal powered inverter.
On that note, we absolutely had a pedal powered inverter set up at Occupy Boston when that was happening -- it was how people kept their phones charged.

It's just like chewing on fresh rawhide. If you only do it a little at a time it's always hard. But if you sit down and really put your jaw into it it softens up nicely and you can get the most out of it.

I'll take 1 or 2 replies from real people with interesting context than all the engagement in the world on a platform that bans me and filters me with no notice or recourse and is full of people just performing for an algorithm anyway.

That would be awful.
Getting rid of Twitter would be like getting rid of op_return: where would we put the garbage? It'd seep into everything.
But yea, we're taking traffic from them, taking it from discord (check out Concord chats via Armada and some other clients), taking traffic from the Play store with Zapstore, traffic from YouTube with Zapstream and flare.pub, traffic from Tiktok with DiVine, traffic from Spotify with WavLake and Fountain, and even from ICANN with FIPS. Just to scratch the surface of what Nostr is doing.
There's also geocaching with Treasure for when its time to touch grass.
Elon wishes he could be the everything app. We have the everything protocol.
