The missing include a retired Air Force general who led a $2.2 billion weapons research program, a retired Los Alamos nuclear weapons engineer, a government contractor with top security clearance at a nuclear stockpile facility, and an aerospace engineer connected to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
There is no public evidence linking the cases. But the House Oversight Committee has formally launched an investigation, and Trump confirmed a White House meeting on the subject last month, saying, "Some of them were very important people, and we are going to look at it."

GameStop is preparing to make an offer for eBay, according to the Wall Street Journal, part of CEO Ryan Cohen's plan to build the company into what the Journal calls "a $100 billion-plus juggernaut."
GameStop has been quietly building a stake in eBay ahead of a potential offer, which could come later this month. If eBay isn't receptive, Cohen could take the offer directly to shareholders.

Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD) have finalized a compromise on stablecoin yield, clearing the way for the Clarity Act to move forward in the Senate Banking Committee.
The deal bans rewards offered "in a manner that is economically or functionally equivalent to the payment of interest or yield on an interest-bearing bank deposit." Companies could still offer rewards tied to stablecoins, but only if those rewards pass a regulatory test proving they aren't functioning like bank deposit interest. The compromise also directs regulators to develop a new stablecoin disclosure regime and define a list of permissible reward activities.
Stablecoin yield has been the central holdup for the Clarity Act for months. Banks argued that stablecoins offering 5-6% yields were directly competing with traditional savings accounts outside the banking regulatory framework. Tillis says he will push for the bill to enter markup after the May recess.

"You can't access the bitcoin, so you're not a custodian."
That single sentence from @npub12rv…85vg , the creator of the Cashu ecash protocol, just unlocked the biggest scaling breakthrough Bitcoin has had in years.
The reason ecash scaling has been limited to small community mints is because running a larger one makes you a money transmitter. Calle's solution: non-custodial Cashu mints running inside hardware enclaves. The bitcoin keys are generated inside the enclave and never leave it. The mint operator literally cannot access them. Even with full admin access to the server, they cannot steal the bitcoin.
Remove the custodial barrier and the design space explodes. Public organizations, businesses, community groups can all run mints without taking on custodial liability.
The security model is battle-tested. ACINQ already uses the same approach with AWS Nitro Enclaves to protect their massive Lightning node holding hundreds of millions in BTC.
The historical lineage is what gets me. In 2004, Hal Finney built RPOW (Reusable Proofs of Work) using IBM's secure cryptographic coprocessor. The server was "more trustworthy than an ordinary bank" because the hardware itself guaranteed the software hadn't been tampered with. Finney's system wasn't tied to an existing currency. Calle's is.
Cashu ecash backed by Bitcoin, running in a modern enclave, is RPOW's spiritual successor. Except this time it's built on the hardest money in human history.
The honest caveats: this doesn't reduce risk to zero. The biggest practical risk is denial of service. The operator could turn the mint off. But since they can't steal the bitcoin, there's no financial incentive to do so.
We're getting closer to having everything we want: privacy, ease of use, and reduced custodial risk, all on Bitcoin rails.

SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron have all confirmed that their HBM, DRAM, and NAND capacity is essentially sold out through 2026 and into 2027. Customers are reserving supply years in advance. Goldman Sachs is forecasting a 4.9% DRAM undersupply in 2026, the worst deficit in over 15 years.
The cause: every major AI company on earth is panic-buying memory chips. Google, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, xAI, and every sovereign AI program from Saudi Arabia to France are hoarding every wafer they can get. High-bandwidth memory prices have spiked over 1,000%. They're calling it "RAMageddon."
The downstream effects are already cascading. Sony delayed the PS6 to 2028 or 2029 because they can't get chips. Western Digital is sold out of hard drives for all of 2026. Musk is still testifying on day 4 of the trial in Oakland. Altman has been sitting in the courtroom listening from about 25 feet away.
Musk told the jury "it is not OK to steal a charity" and said a win for OpenAI would "give license to looting every charity in America." Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo), which manages $195 billion in assets for Alberta's pension plans, endowments, and the Heritage Savings Trust Fund, just bought 1.38 million shares of Strategy worth $219 million. It's the fund's first bitcoin-linked allocation ever.
AIMCo joins a growing list of Canadian institutional money flowing into bitcoin exposure through Strategy's stock. The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) opened a position in MSTR last year. RBC and HOOPP are also holders.
These are not hedge funds or venture capital firms chasing upside. These are pension managers responsible for the retirement savings of teachers, firefighters, and public workers choosing to allocate to bitcoin through the most liquid institutional vehicle available.
Strategy now holds 815,061 BTC worth over $63 billion. The stock has become the default regulated proxy for institutions that want bitcoin exposure without the operational complexity of direct custody.
The trend is accelerating. When pension funds with multi-decade time horizons start allocating, it signals something fundamentally different than speculative retail interest. This is long-duration capital entering the market with no intention of selling anytime soon.

Nearly half of all US data centers planned for 2026 have been delayed or canceled.
Out of 12 GW of AI data center capacity announced for this year, only about 5 GW is actually under construction. The rest is stalled. The bottleneck isn't money. Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft have committed over $650 billion in AI infrastructure spending. The bottleneck is power.
The US power grid can't keep up. Lead times for high-voltage transformers have stretched from 12-18 months pre-2020 to 3-5 years today. A single missing transformer or piece of switchgear can halt an entire project. Data centers are being built in 18 months but the electrical infrastructure they need takes 60 months to deliver.
Tariffs are making it worse. A significant share of power delivery equipment comes from China. With tariffs adding 15-25% cost increases on critical components, projects that were already tight on budget are getting pushed back or killed entirely.
The pipeline gap extends far beyond this year. For 2027, only 6.3 GW of 21.5 GW announced has broken ground. Through 2032, more than 50 GW of announced capacity lacks firm completion dates. Even OpenAI's $500 billion Stargate project has seen no significant physical progress as of April.
Community opposition is growing too. Residents in Virginia, Georgia, and Texas are pushing back on water usage, noise, and local grid strain. Projects are being canceled at the county level.
The AI demand is real. The infrastructure to support it is not materializing fast enough. Capital cannot outrun physics.

OpenAI missed its internal revenue and user growth targets for Q1 2026. Wall Street is panicking. "AI bubble" headlines are everywhere.
Read the fine print. The demand didn't disappear. It moved.
Anthropic's annualized revenue hit $30 billion in April, up from $9 billion at the end of 2025 and $1 billion at the end of 2024. Claude now holds 29% of the enterprise AI assistant market, up from 18% in 2024. 70% of Fortune 100 companies use Claude. Over 500 businesses are paying Anthropic more than $1 million a year, up from roughly a dozen two years ago. Claude Code alone is generating $2.5 billion in annualized revenue.
The WSJ report itself says it plainly: OpenAI "lost ground to Anthropic in coding and enterprise markets."
This isn't demand for AI cooling off. This is demand shifting. Anthropic is eating OpenAI's lunch in the segments that generate the most revenue per customer. Enterprise clients are moving. Developers are moving. The money isn't leaving AI. It's leaving OpenAI.
The AI bubble narrative assumes the entire market is overbuilt. The actual data says the market is growing fast and one company is taking share from another. That's not a bubble. That's competition working exactly as it should.

Project Eleven announced today that it awarded its Q-Day Prize, 1 BTC, for what it called the largest quantum attack on elliptic curve cryptography to date.
A researcher ran a variant of Shor's algorithm on a publicly accessible quantum computer against a 15-bit ECC key. The headlines followed, 6.9 million BTC exposed, $2.5 trillion at risk, the window is closing.
Bitcoin developer (jamesob) pointed out what the headlines leave out. Like every other public application of Shor's algorithm to date, this one involves classical pre-computation that encodes the solution into the quantum circuit before it runs. The quantum computer isn't solving the hard problem. It's executing an algorithm on a problem that's already been worked out on a normal computer first. It's a demonstration, not a break.
Project Eleven is a post-quantum security startup that raised $20 million in January at a $120 million valuation. Their investors include Castle Island Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, Variant, and Balaji Srinivasan. They sell post-quantum security tools. They created the Q-Day Prize bounty. They awarded it. Then they used the result to market urgency around the very threat their product exists to solve.
The gap between 15 bits and the 256 bits Bitcoin actually uses is a factor of 2^241. Current quantum hardware runs at roughly 1,000 qubits. Even the most optimistic estimates for a real 256-bit attack require between 10,000 and 500,000 physical qubits with error correction breakthroughs that don't exist yet.
Quantum risk to Bitcoin is real on a long enough timeline. But when the company sounding the alarm is the same company selling the solution, and awarding its own prizes to generate the headlines, it's worth asking whether the timeline justifies the urgency, or whether the urgency justifies the valuation.

Tether just froze $344 million in USDT across two Tron wallets at the request of OFAC and US law enforcement. This is why Bitcoin exists.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the company "acts immediately and decisively" when links to sanctioned entities or criminal networks are identified. To date, Tether has cooperated with 340+ law enforcement agencies across 65 countries, supported over 2,300 cases, and frozen more than $4.4 billion in assets.
They frame this as a feature. In their own words: "Public blockchains give investigators and issuers something cash cannot. A visible trail. Transactions can be followed, wallets can be flagged, and assets can be frozen before they are moved further."
Stablecoins are programmable dollars with a kill switch. And the entity holding that switch cooperates with the US government on demand.
Here's the part that should make everyone uncomfortable: the US government's posturing about banning CBDCs is a misdirection. There is no functional difference between a government-issued CBDC with account-level freeze capabilities and a government that can call Tether and have $344 million frozen within hours.
The CBDC ban lets politicians claim they're protecting financial freedom while the actual surveillance and control infrastructure gets built through regulated stablecoin issuers instead.
It always starts with the easy cases. Sanctioned entities, terrorist financing, fraud that nobody will publicly defend. But the tooling doesn't stay pointed at the easy cases. It never does. Operation Chokepoint started with payday lenders and ended with legal gun shops losing their bank accounts.
The freeze capability that targets the Lazarus Group today gets aimed at politically inconvenient actors tomorrow. That's not speculation. It's the documented pattern of every financial surveillance power ever granted to a government.
Bitcoin is a bearer instrument. No CEO to call. No company to subpoena. No kill switch to flip.
Nobody can freeze a Bitcoin wallet unless they control the private keys.
Stablecoins are a useful tool for some. Bitcoin is the exit.

Anthropic's Mythos model is being accessed by unauthorized users, according to Bloomberg.
Anthropic says there's no evidence the access affected its systems. But the fact that the most powerful cybersecurity AI model ever built has an access control problem is the story.
Mythos launched on April 7 through a controlled initiative called Project Glasswing. Only about 40 organizations on Earth were given access, including JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Citi, Amazon, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Apple.
The model found "thousands" of major vulnerabilities in every major operating system and web browser. The UK government tested it and called it "substantially more capable at cyber offence than any model we have previously assessed." Barclays' CEO called it a serious threat to the global banking system.
This is now the second access control failure around Mythos. In late March, a CMS misconfiguration exposed roughly 3,000 internal Anthropic documents, including full descriptions of Mythos and its capabilities, to the public internet. That leak crashed cybersecurity stocks. CrowdStrike fell 7%. Palo Alto Networks fell 6%. The Nasdaq dropped 2.15%.
Meanwhile, the NSA is reportedly using Mythos despite the Pentagon designating Anthropic a "supply chain risk" earlier this year and the two sides currently litigating in federal court. Anthropic's own leadership said this week that Chinese labs and open-source projects will match Mythos capabilities within 6 to 12 months.
The model that was supposed to give defenders an edge is now leaking to unauthorized users while the company that built it says the threat will be everywhere within a year anyway. The question isn't whether Mythos is powerful. It's whether any organization, including Anthropic, can actually control it.

That absence isn't a mystery to be solved. It's the design. Bitcoin has no CEO to subpoena, no founder to pressure, no figurehead to discredit. Every other monetary system on Earth depends on the credibility of its leadership. Bitcoin is the only one that doesn't. Satoshi's disappearance is what makes it work.

New York Attorney General Letitia James just sued Coinbase and Gemini, alleging their prediction markets are illegal gambling operations running without a New York State Gaming Commission license.
The lawsuits lay out specific bets offered on both platforms. Coinbase let users wager on Knicks point spreads, the Super Bowl, and college basketball games. Gemini offered Mets run lines, Super Bowl contracts, and college matchups.
Under New York law, betting on outcomes outside the bettor's control fits the legal definition of gambling, and both platforms allowed users as young as 18 while New York's legal gambling age is 21.
James is seeking forfeiture of illegal profits, consumer restitution, and fines equal to three times the companies' earnings from prediction markets in the state.
Coinbase CLO Paul Grewal responded immediately, arguing that prediction markets are federally regulated national exchanges registered with the CFTC and that this exact issue is already being litigated in federal court. Coinbase's position is that federal law preempts state gambling regulations. Notably, Kalshi and Polymarket were not named in today's lawsuits.

Arbitrum just froze $90 million in ETH and proved DeFi is decentralization theater.
The Security Council took emergency action to freeze 30,766 ETH connected to the KelpDAO exploit. A multisig of insiders unilaterally reversed a transaction on what claims to be a "decentralized" Layer 2. They acted "with input from law enforcement." The funds were moved to an intermediary frozen wallet that can only be unlocked "by further action by Arbitrum governance."
This is what a bank does when it freezes a suspicious account. The difference is that banks don't pretend to be decentralized.
The exploit itself exposed the absurd complexity DeFi has become. People staked ETH through Lido, restaked through Eigenlayer via KelpDAO, leveraged looped in Aave, and relied on a cross-chain bridge called LayerZero that got hacked by North Koreans. The result: rsETH became undercollateralized, looping positions froze, and $13 billion evaporated from DeFi in two days.
0xSweep nailed the mechanics. You deposit $100 into a protocol, borrow $80 against it, redeposit, borrow $60 against that, redeploy. Suddenly $100 real capital becomes $285 reported TVL through circular borrowing. "TVL became FDV in a different format." DeFi didn't fail. It worked exactly as designed.
Defenders are calling this a "validity violation" not a "decentralization violation." Semantic nonsense. If 12 people can get in a room, freeze a supposedly self-custodial wallet, and move funds out of it with input from law enforcement, your system is not decentralized. Full stop.
Bitcoin doesn't need a Security Council to freeze funds because Bitcoin doesn't have single points of failure. No multisig committee can rewrite the ledger. No governance vote can reverse a transaction. That's not a limitation. That's the whole point.
Bitcoin is the only distributed sound money in the digital age. Everything else is complexity built to extract value from greater fools.

John Ternus is either the best or worst possible choice to run Apple.
He's a 25-year hardware veteran who built Apple Silicon, led the Mac transition, and oversaw every iPad ever shipped. He started at Apple in 2001 designing monitors, worked his way up through every major product line, and became SVP of Hardware Engineering in 2021. Cook called him someone with "the mind of an engineer, the soul of an innovator." He takes over September 1.
The bull case writes itself. Apple hasn't launched a transformative product since the Apple Watch in 2015. Vision Pro underwhelmed. iPhone cycles are incremental. If the problem is that the products stopped surprising people, putting a lifelong product engineer in charge is the obvious fix.
The bear case is harder to dismiss. Apple's biggest gap is AI. Siri is years behind ChatGPT and Google. Apple Intelligence has been delayed repeatedly. Ternus has no public track record in AI or software architecture. If the real battleground is cloud intelligence and agentic capabilities, Apple just picked a hardware leader for a software war.
Cook became CEO at 51. Ternus takes over at 51. Last time Apple bet on an engineer, it was Jobs.

A country of 7 million people now commands roughly 3% of the global Bitcoin hashrate. Paraguay's mining story is one of the most underreported developments in the industry.
Miners consume an estimated 600 megawatts of electricity there, roughly 25% of the country's share of the Itaipú Dam. Electricity costs run as low as $0.033 per kilowatt-hour, making it one of the cheapest places to mine on Earth.
For decades, Paraguay had been selling its surplus Itaipú power to Brazil for around $10 per megawatt-hour. Bitcoin miners showed up offering $40. By 2024, there were 45 licensed operations with another 20 applicants proposing 2,000 megawatts of additional capacity.
But the boom attracted a massive illegal mining problem. Operations were stealing electricity through fraudulent grid connections at industrial scale. In 2023, authorities shut down 43 illicit networks consuming 90 megawatts combined. Paraguay responded by updating its penal code to impose 10-year prison sentences for electricity theft tied to mining.
In March 2026, the government flipped the script. Rather than just cracking down, Paraguay launched a state-led mining operation using nearly 30,000 seized rigs deployed in government facilities. The national electricity authority now owns and manages the infrastructure directly, turning confiscated hardware and surplus power into sovereign revenue.
(HIVEDigitalTech) operates 300 megawatts across two Paraguayan sites, mining over 12 Bitcoin per day and commanding roughly 3% of the global network. The company says it's on pace to become the largest payer of U.S. dollars in the country every month.
Paraguay had more power than it could use and a dam that's been waiting for a better buyer since 1984. Bitcoin showed up with the best offer anyone had made in 40 years.
