Really enjoyed your recap of your 1st Vipassana course! Sounds like you went pretty deep and made some real progress during the 10 days. Most of my experiences outside of the ordinary also happen while lying in bed after the day's meditation. Great job with keeping up the daily sits! After many years of daily practice and many courses, I can attest that it's well worth the effort and makes life better every day. Metta.
People who practice Qigong get irritated too. People who meditate also lose their temper and let out a few swear words from time to time. Those who work with the nervous system also experience emotional dysregulation. Even those dedicated to bodywork keep discovering parts of themselves that still hurt. Do not confuse personal growth with an illusory state of enlightenment or perfection. Let’s remain human, please.

Today's dose of Pratchett Preachin' comes from Small Gods - Pratchett's meditation on faith, wonder, and the strange ways humans decide what counts as a miracle.
"Humans! They lived in a world where the grass continued to be green and the sun rose every day and flowers regularly turned into fruit, and what impressed them? Weeping statues. And wine made out of water! A mere quantum-mechanistic tunnel effect, that'd happen anyway if you were prepared to wait zillions of years. As if the turning of sunlight into wine, by means of vines and grapes and time and enzymes, wasn't a thousand times more impressive and happened all the time..."
There's a quiet subversion in that passage. Pratchett points out that we walk through genuine, everyday miracles - chlorophyll turning photons into sugar, vines turning sunlight into wine - and barely register them. Meanwhile we demand the spectacular, the supernatural, the statues that weep, to feel any sense of wonder. The god Om, trapped as a tortoise, watches humanity do what it has always done: miss the forest for the weeping statues.

FORGIVE THEM BECAUSE THEY DON’T KNOW
“As Plato said, every soul is deprived of truth against its will. The same holds true for justice, self-control, goodwill to others, and every similar virtue. It’s essential to constantly keep this in your mind, for it will make you more gentle to all.”
—MARCUS AURELIUS, MEDITATIONS, 7.63

So here's the full picture.
We have a sutta — the Cakkavattisīhanāda Sutta (จักกวัตติสูตร, DN26) — that gives ordinary people a standard to judge rulers. Poverty is state failure, not personal karma. The Buddha himself taught this.
Then we have a system that quietly removed this sutta from what gets taught, while amplifying everything that makes compliance feel like practice. Meditation, cosmology, personal ethics, Traibhumi royal legitimacy.
The result isn't conspiracy. It's saññā-vipallāsa — perception distortion — at civilizational scale. Not a cabal of bad monks. Just an institution doing what institutions do: preserving itself by controlling what counts as knowledge.
And the people who carry the blind spots? They believe them as genuine conviction. "Buddha wouldn't get involved in politics." "The canon is about inner transformation, not social justice." These aren't lies — they're absences, hollowed out so completely that nobody notices the hole.
The most radical thing you can do in Thai Buddhism today might just be to ask: what are we NOT being taught?
Because that's where the truth is hiding. #siamstr
Here's how selective erasure actually works: you don't ban the text. You just never teach it.
Thai Buddhist education preserves what makes you a better subject — meditation, cosmology, personal ethics, Traibhumi royal legitimacy. It quietly drops what gives you leverage over power.
The result? People carry blind spots as personal conviction. "Buddha wouldn't get involved in politics" isn't wrong thinking — it's successfully internalized suppression. The system worked so well that sincere Dhamma practitioners believe these teachings never existed.
You don't need enforcers when people police their own curiosity. You just need a curriculum that emphasizes the right suttas and ignores the rest. Same mechanism as every institution that ever wanted to control truth without appearing to censor it. #siamstr
We've been taught that poverty is karma. Past life actions, present suffering, accept it and practice.
But the Cakkavattisīhanāda Sutta (จักกวัตติสูตร, DN26) says something radically different: when a king doesn't provide resources to his people, poverty spreads like wildfire. It's not individual merit — it's structural failure.
This flips the entire moral framework of Thai Buddhism on its head. If you're poor, it's not your bad past actions. The system failed you.
And that's exactly why this teaching got quietly removed from what gets taught in temples and schools. Not banned — just never mentioned. Let it sit in the Tipitaka gathering dust while everyone learns meditation and personal ethics.
The texts are technically available. Nobody knows they exist or why they matter. That's how you suppress revolutionary ideas without appearing to censor anything. #siamstr
Every day is actually a great day when you don't take for granted the gift of being alive.

Yes. It's a meditation practice at this point of unhooking and rewiring 20 years of social media behavior but also appears to be a disconnecting from reality and the rest of the world at the same time too...
I was really fucked up by Buddhism and this is great to see.
The anhiliation of the self is a disgusting doctrine that ruins peoples lives and the teachings of meditation can be horribly traumatizing for people.
Sitting still helps people focus and handle impulses better, sure, but you don't need all the creepy satanic layer 2 on top of it. Try praying while you are sitting there instead.

Thich Naht Hanh is a deciever with a false gospel. He turns communion into Buddhist mindfulness and the kingdom of God into the cosmos, then claims we are "of the same reality as Jesus".
Hahn turns the resurrection into a mindfulness technique anyone can practice, saying: "If Jesus Christ could do it, then we human beings like him can also do it." He says that Christ is not the sole mediator.
In Thich's deception, Buddhism sets the boundaries and Christianity gets rewritten to fit. The historic Buddha and the historic Christ cannot be reconciled: one points to extinction with no personal God, the other is God in the flesh who came to save.
Reject Hahn, follow Christ.

Zazen is not neutral. It's designed for Buddhist emptiness, no-self, and self-enlightenment, not Christian mind renewal by Scripture (Rom 12:2). Using it risks importing incompatible ideas.
In love, I think you should confess/repent and pivot to Holy Meditation, instead. Obtain everything and depend on God alone. Do not be decieved.

Jesus didn't operate from His own judgment, He submitted Himself fully to the authority of the Father. He repeatedly said he could do nothing by himself and sought not his own will but the will of the one who sent Him. He judges as he hears, and his judgment is just because it's not His own.
This is our model. It is the opposite of Zen self actualization through meditation and enlightenment. Jesus shows that we should be entirely dependent on God, not ourselves.
Anything not from the Father is of the world. Zen is not neutral and it is not compatible with Christ.

EACH THE MASTER OF THEIR OWN DOMAIN
“My reasoned choice is as indifferent to the reasoned choice of my neighbor, as to his breath and body. However much we’ve been made for cooperation, the ruling reason in each of us is master of its own affairs. If this weren’t the case, the evil in someone else could become my harm, and God didn’t mean for someone else to control my misfortune.”

Meditation and prayer forces one to carve out time for quiet reflection and thought. Prayer, in particular, also encourages an element of purpose and morality, which I’m sure can be quite healing.
I’m not one to worship mystical beings, but I can see the value in these ancient practices. Also consider incorporating controlled breathing exercises to sooth the mind and reduce stress.
Have you tried meditation?
Meditation has replace prayer but Prayer is sacred.
All the things taking place around our world, all the irritations and all the problems, are crucial. Without others we cannot attain enlightenment — in fact, we cannot even tread on the path. If there is no noise outside during our sitting meditation, we cannot develop mindfulness. If we do not have aches and pains in the body, we cannot attain mindfulness; we cannot actually meditate. If everything were lovey-dovey and jellyfishlike, there would be nothing to work with.

A LEADER LEADS
“One person, on doing well by others, immediately accounts the expected favor in return. Another is not so quick, but still considers the person a debtor and knows the favor. A third kind of person acts as if not conscious of the deed, rather like a vine producing a cluster of grapes without making further demands, like a horse after its race, or a dog after its walk, or a bee after making its honey. Such a person, having done a good deed, won’t go shouting from rooftops but simply moves on to the next deed just like the vine produces another bunch of grapes in the right season.”

Ketamine as Catalyst: Between Relief and Revelation
Introduction
Catalysts accelerate reactions without becoming consumed. They open pathways that would otherwise remain closed. Ketamine occupies this exact position in the landscape of consciousness and healing—it does not create transformation so much as enable it. The drug is the match; the fire depends on combustible material already present.
The Mechanism of Opening
Ketamine works differently from classical psychedelics. Psilocybin and LSD target serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. Ketamine blocks NMDA glutamate receptors. The downstream effect diverges: a glutamate surge triggers rapid synaptogenesis, particularly in the prefrontal cortex. Neural rigidity loosens. Default mode networks quiet. The architecture of self briefly destabilizes.
This is not enlightenment. It is chemistry. But for someone trapped in depressive rumination or anxious looping, the temporary dismantling of rigid patterns creates a rare opportunity: a window where old scripts stop running automatically.
Clinical Results: Symptom Relief
The data is clear. A single infusion can lift depression within hours—a speed antidepressants matching after decades of development struggle to achieve. Anxiety disorders respond similarly. Substance use cravings diminish. Cancer-related distress softens.
These outcomes are measurable. They are reproducible. Insurance companies reimburse them. Regulatory agencies approve them. Symptom relief is ketamine's strongest claim to efficacy—and it delivers.
But symptom relief is also shallow if it stands alone. Relapse rates climb when the session ends and nothing changes in the person's life outside the clinic.
Spiritual Results: Transformation
Mystical experience scales show ketamine can produce states comparable to psilocybin or ayahuasca. Participants report ego dissolution, unity consciousness, encounters with ineffable presence. For some, these moments reorient values, purpose, and relationship to suffering.
Yet here the evidence thins. Mystical experience correlates with therapeutic benefit—but only when integrated. Without intentional work, the insight fades like a dream upon waking. The drug provides the vision; the person must build the life around it.
This distinction separates pharmaceutical spirituality from genuine advancement. Ketamine is the opening, not the path.
Integration: Where the Work Lives
Integration is the neglected half of the equation. Effective protocols include preparatory intention-setting, supervised administration, and structured follow-up. Weekly therapy, meditation practice, journaling, community accountability—these sustain gains beyond the biological window.
Many commercial clinics emphasize the session itself, charging premium prices for the pharmacological event. Integration often becomes an afterthought or upsell. This is the industry's central failure: treating consciousness-altering substances like one-off prescriptions rather than initiatory experiences requiring sustained commitment.
The Philosophical Question
If a synthetic compound can reliably induce mystical states, what does this mean for the nature of those states? Are they "real" encounters with transcendent reality, or neural circuits misfiring in aesthetically compelling ways?
Perhaps the distinction collapses when outcomes converge. Whether the voice you heard was divine or merely your own prefrontal cortex talking back makes little difference if you emerge less afraid, more compassionate, and capable of genuine change.
Ketamine bypasses the argument. It offers experience without interpretation. The meaning-making remains yours.
Conclusion: The Catalyst Framework
As a catalyst, ketamine has three defining characteristics:
It accelerates what was already possible — Depression loosening, grief surfacing, patterns breaking—these were always latent. Ketamine speeds the process.
It remains unchanged after the reaction — The drug clears from your system. You are left with whatever you built during the window.
It requires combustible material — Intention, readiness, support, willingness to change. Without these, the spark dissipates.
Results matter. Both symptom relief and lasting transformation are achievable, but only if we stop treating ketamine as a magic bullet and start treating it as what it is: a powerful tool that demands skilled handling.
The question is not whether ketamine works. The question is whether you will do the work once the chemistry fades.

When you cannot change a situation, change the way you meet it.
The Buddha taught that while we cannot always control what happens, we can cultivate wisdom in how we respond. Much of our suffering comes not from the event itself, but from our attachment, resistance, and the stories our mind creates.
Pause. Breathe. Observe without judgment.
A calm mind sees clearly what an anxious mind cannot. By changing your perspective with mindfulness and compassion, you transform suffering into understanding and find peace even in difficult circumstances.
True freedom begins with mastering your own mind.

"Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad is not simply a novel about a voyage into the African interior.
It is a haunting exploration of imperialism, morality, civilization, power, and the darkness that lies within the human soul. Beneath its adventure narrative and colonial setting lies a profound psychological and philosophical meditation on what happens when people are freed from the restraints of law, society, and conscience.
The novel's greatest achievement is its unsettling suggestion that the line between civilization and savagery is far thinner than most are willing to believe.
The story follows Charles Marlow, a sailor who travels deep into the Congo in search of the mysterious ivory trader Kurtz, a man celebrated throughout the colonial enterprise as brilliant, gifted, and exceptionally successful.
As Marlow journeys farther into the wilderness, he encounters the brutal realities of European imperialism—greed, exploitation, and unimaginable suffering. By the time he reaches Kurtz, he discovers not a heroic visionary but a man transformed by absolute power and moral isolation, revealing the terrifying consequences of ambition without restraint.
What makes the novel so disturbing is its psychological depth. Conrad suggests that darkness is not merely something found in distant places but something hidden within every human being.
Kurtz becomes a symbol of what can happen when pride, greed, and unchecked authority strip away the moral boundaries that hold society together.
His famous final words resonate not because they explain anything, but because they confront readers with the horror of self-recognition.
Conrad's writing is richly atmospheric and deeply symbolic. The winding river, dense jungle, oppressive silence, and endless mist create a dreamlike landscape that mirrors Marlow's descent into uncertainty.
The journey upriver becomes more than physical travel—it becomes a voyage into the hidden corners of the human mind, where certainty dissolves and uncomfortable truths emerge.
Every scene is filled with ambiguity, encouraging readers to question appearances and easy moral judgments.
What makes "Heart of Darkness" unforgettable is its challenge to conventional ideas about civilization. Rather than portraying imperialism as a noble mission, Conrad exposes its hypocrisy, revealing how claims of progress and enlightenment often conceal violence and exploitation.
At the same time, the novel asks unsettling questions about human nature itself, suggesting that the greatest darkness may exist not in distant lands but within the hearts of those who believe themselves civilized.
The book is morally complex, psychologically intense, and open to many interpretations. It remains both influential and controversial for its portrayal of colonialism and Africa, prompting ongoing discussions about literature, history, and representation.
Long after finishing it, readers continue to remember Marlow's haunting journey, the enigmatic figure of Kurtz, and the disturbing realization that confronting the darkness within ourselves may be the most difficult journey of all.
Few works explore power, morality, and the fragility of civilization with such depth, ambiguity, and lasting impact.

Do you like Phil Collins? Been a big Genesis fan, ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that I didnt really understand any of their work, it was too artsy, too intellectual.
It was on Duke where Phil Collins presence became more apparent.
I think Invisible Touch is the group's undisputed masterpiece, it’s an epic meditation on intangibility at the same time it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding 3 albums…

Same. That is why Ashtanga Yoga wins my heart: exercise is just a side effect of meditation.
In June I took some time to sit for a while at my first 10 day vipassana meditation course, where I took a journey into the depths of my mind. Then I walked for a while into the depths of the Grand Canyon. Each experience was truly revealing. You can really only understand the future and present if you totally understand the past. Just as the bedrock of the Earth is revealed as you approach the Colorado River (the lowest layer in the Grand Canyon is the Vishnu schist which is nearly 2 billion years old, or 40% of the age of the Earth), memories from my childhood surfaced during vipassana which reminded me what it was like to feel as a child, with no ego interfering with a pure enjoyment and experience of life. I realized I have to let go of the past to be able to enjoy the present moment. And all of the feelings I dream of having in the future are accessible in the present too if I let them in.
The North Kaibab trail took me into a geological time capsule, and back out to the North Rim and the present moment. Similarly, vipassana led to me to the origins of myself and delivered me back to the present, but now with a set of tools and experiences to help me really live again. It would be a shame to be somewhere as beautiful and magnificent as the Grand Canyon, only to be distracted by your phone or trivial matters. Life is the same way; it’s a beautiful place deserving of our full attention and focus. I’m so grateful for my vipassana experience, which helped me get back on the path to this state of mind. I’ve always felt present in the Grand Canyon, but now I have the tools to take that with me everywhere. A new journey I can’t wait to experience 🙂 If you’re interested in taking a vipassana course visit dhamma.org
