Weekend oil markets fell nearly 3% after Qatar announced that maritime activity would resume within its own territorial waters from Sunday.
Qatar did not say the Strait of Hormuz had reopened. It did not say tanker traffic, oil exports or regional shipping had fully normalised.
Yet algorithms saw the words “maritime navigation resumed” and traded it as a major de-escalation.
They traded the headline without understanding the geography.
