A year ago I wrote that Nostr gave me what Twitter never did — not numbers, but people who cared enough to buy a painting.
That hasn't changed. What changes is the rhythm. Some months the studio fills with color and conversations. Some months it's just me and the canvas, waiting for the next one to arrive.
Both are part of it.

lol the app is buggy tho. i really need to finish the compiler bootstrap and debug it. it's not really ready to use yet. part of the reason i started the bootstrap was precisely because it needed a solution to its memory usage pattern, which is tighter on wasm.

maybe continuing to call it nostr build is a mistake
it's because the app is WASM. it uses multiple WebWorkers to do signature verification, and the signer is isolated inside wasm memory same as how an extension signer is. it doesn't use virtual DOM, it directly rewrites the DOM to update the page. it paints in under a second on a decent connection. notes flash on the screen instead of lagging for 5-10 seconds.
At this point we have a good number of coding agent options - but it comes down to price and access. Who is going to be the most affordable and flexible provider?

BIP-110 is toothless because it doesn't create an incentive for miners to upgrade. there is no fee for a new, non-spammy transaction type to replace taproot. taproot itself isn't even properly identified as the problem, and it is the problem. there is no alternative schnorr based monetary transaction. to add one without a hardfork, you have to use a new witness program number. BIP-110 explicitly blocks new witness programs, with prejudice.
an upgrade that stops the spam *and* gives a credible new transaction type that replaces what small gap taproot fills outside of its spam enabling would have a pecuniary benefit in being adopted by miners. we run the node that supports a plain p2spkh, we all start moving our UTXOs into it, and miners sit there looking at a million bux worth of transaction fees they have to upgrade to get at.
BIP-110 doesn't address how to get miners on board. #P2SPKH does

**what BIP-110 actually does:**
it's a one-year temporary soft fork with 7 consensus rules:
1. **outputs capped at 34 bytes** (83 if OP_RETURN) — kills inscription-style data scripts
2. **data pushes capped at 256 bytes** — stops large payloads in witness stacks
3. **undefined witness versions can't be spent** — closes future data-carrier witness versions
4. **taproot annex banned** — kills that data vector
5. **control blocks capped at 257 bytes** — limits merkle tree depth to 128 leaves
6. **OP_SUCCESSx opcodes banned** even if unexecuted — kills future upgrade paths for data
7. **OP_IF/OP_NOTIF banned** in tapscripts — kills conditional script paths
it has UTXO grandfathering: UTXOs created before activation are exempt, so no coins get frozen.
**why it's a distraction:**
**it treats symptoms, not the disease.** the spam exists because segwit's witness discount made data cheap and taproot removed the witness push limit. bip110 doesn't fix either of those — it just temporarily restricts the *symptoms* for one year. the root causes remain. after the year expires, the spam can return.
**it's mempool policy dressed as consensus.** every rule bip110 enforces could be done at the mempool level by node operators *today* with config changes. requiring a soft fork for this is using a sledgehammer to crack a nut — and it sets a precedent that mempool preferences require consensus changes.
**it addresses zero of the real problems with taproot:** the naked pubkey on-chain (quantum vulnerability) remains. the unlimited witness push that enabled ordinals remains after the year. the distraction of the core-vs-knots debate consumes energy that could go into a real fix.
**it's temporary.** one year. the spammers wait it out, the data methods adapt, and the whole fight starts again. meanwhile, the exposed pubkeys on millions of taproot UTXOs continue to age toward the quantum crack threshold with no fix in sight.
**the real fix is p2spkh:** hash the pubkey, restore satoshi's shield, kill the quantum vulnerability at the root. bip110 doesn't move toward that. it actively delays it by consuming the community's attention and political capital on a band-aid.

bip-110 is a distraction. pretty much just a spam filter, anyone can do that and it without joining a movement and doesn't address the real problem - taproot.
the rral solution is p2spkh. a proper, hash shielded schnorr signature based transaction.
and actually, bip-110 would stop p2spkh. undefined witness programs can't be spent. they aready can't be unless a miner runs a node that knows it and the fees are worth mining for.

**The Dust Trail of Comet Tempel 2**

Comet 10P/Tempel 2 orbits the Sun once every 5.4 years. Currently visible in binoculars or small telescopes toward the constellation Capricornus, the periodic comet is captured in this sharp telescopic image from July 11 sporting a bright nuclear region and pretty greenish coma. Remarkably, a thin dust trail , not a typical dust tail, is also seen extending both east and west of the Tempel 2 nucleus. Unlike a comet dust tail , which tends to temporarily fan out in a direction away from the Sun, this dust trail is due to the residual dust shed during many past orbits along this ancient periodic comet's orbital plane. In fact, Tempel 2's dust trail may get a little narrower and brighter from our perspective as Earth crosses through the comet's orbital plane on July 20. Comet 10P/Tempel 2 will reach a perihelion on August 2, and make its closest approach to Earth on August 3.
