For a new thing, it eliminates address reuse and we won't be able to see a nostrich balance by looking at those profile.

I feel almost exactly the same as you. And I agree that the solution shouldn't be " just write code ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" cause that's what got us here.
But what's amazing is that no matter how shitty a Nostr client or relay is, if it followed the core spec and produces valid events, it's an equal participant in the eyes of the network. That doesn't help you, I know. And it makes me mad too. But that's how it's been possible to even get to this point. Protocol-complient but completely user-unfriendly experiences abound.
I reeee about poor code quality all the time, and I was doing it before vibe coding when people were still writing code by hand. But at the end of the day, my reeee-ing is still justified. Good code quality and prudent, sane engineering is how we move this thing forward, or else we're stuck floundering in our own pig-sty with a half dozen devs building for 2 dozen users.
How do we get there? I dunno. Devs aren't going to magically adopt a professional mindset, and vibe coding will only make things worse. Call it an epidemic of the field. It's a sickness and it's going to wreak a lot of havoc before things change.
I decided to build a relay. And I'm building it prudently. And it's going to take a while. But I hope you can take some small solace that there's at least one dev out there trying to do things right and professionally. I don't have grant money, and I don't care to obtain any because I don't need it. I'm going to make what I want to see, and I hope it can help make things better for me. And if it can make things better for me, maybe it can make things better for you. And that is my hope.

I added the ability to the end the tip jar into a tri-fold sign so you don't need an actual jar.

How can you "protect" (this usually means prevent, otherwise what are we even talking about) people from making bad decisions without force or coercion? Laws against fraud protect property rights. That makes sense. Voluntary public education? Sure. But beyond that... You're leaving Capitalism and freedom in general. I can't be free if I can do dumb shit that hurts myself.
I guess you could get into people who are deemed incompetent. And we probably should have processes for that. But that's probably an extension of fraud.

I don’t think this is about privacy, more about fear of the tools themselves.
I don't blame the Founders for not seeing every possible outcome, but I wish they'd spent more time limiting eminent domain.
The supreme court defended ED as an inherent attribute of a state. Why even have a document defining the state if the state has inherent attributes - what are they exactly? Who decides them? Isn't that the exact purpose of a Constitution? Anyway, it is in the Constitution, I just wish they'd limited the hell out of it.

He only consulted a group pushing for broader censorship laws. Ian Cheshire is building a speech police force and calling it safety.

This conversation still hasn't even populated on Amythest yet 🤣 I don't mind the quirks of Nostr but can absolutely see how frustrating it can be. I tell myself it's a reminder I shouldn't be so chronically online 🤣
To be a good husband, you need to be a good man. To be a good man, you need to be perfectly fine without a wife.
Obviously the note would still be there, but that doesn't mean I need to see it. I guess we could just filter all notifications by follow, but I'm okay with giving others a way through in case they have something interesting to say. It'll just cost them to prove that worth. Not sure how you'd do all the verification stuff though. None of these issues have simple answers.

I agree. I've always felt that zaps should somehow be used as a penalty for spammers. If nothing else, give me a ton of settings and filters for whatever spam mechanism is tied to zaps. I know some people hate having money tied to Nostr but even the centralized platforms have practically given into the spammers. It's fucking everywhere. I'd rather pay 21 sats to send you a note than have my view filled with spam. We can try to centralize and filter all we want, but I think economic pain is a more reliable approach. And it would be cool if it could somehow help fund development. I know everyone wants free but the cost of that has become too high, in my opinion.
I guess we could add a way to exempt people we follow. Like you get a pass with my follow. Everyone else, pay or fuck off.
Keep the pitchforks sharp yall.

I define capitalism more deeply than merely having capital. I take the Ayn Rand view and factor morality into economic systems. Some people try to break them apart but I don't see how you can without removing humans from the equation. This is why so many US economists miss the entire point. It's about human life and flourishing, not mathematics.
Usually not many. I have a bug zapper that gets most of them.
