📰 **In this week's issue:**
🗞️ **BREAKING**
$38M Coldcard Heist: The Bitcoin Self-Custody Nightmare
This isn't fear-mongering—it's what happened to roughly 500 Bitcoin holders on July 30, 2026. An attacker drained 594 BTC (worth over $38 million) from Coldcard hardware wallets. Here's the kicker: the victims never made a mistake. Their wallets were compromised by a firmware bug that had been hiding in plain sight since March 2021.

It's not just Bitcoin:

Which posts disappear? It could be that the authors outbox relays are offline (lots of relays have been offline today) and Amethyst doesn't check other centralized relays for the posts. Wisp does. So it's probably case by case. If you can see one that doesn't show up on Amethyst, let me know..
Also, check if the amethyst is connecting many relays, sometimes Tor is offline and then only trusted relays will be used by default.
It's not getting weirder. Bitcoin is full of weird people. People who learned about nyms and where better to practice it but in the bitcoin circle?
This type of stuff is normal here.
Play with these too learn more

Hard to follow first time through for sure.
Quite confusing for a tard like me.
Damn, between Scamourai, the Coldcard fanatics, and the Bip-110 folks—what a bunch of idiots.

Maby communities can make it more rewarding, by celebrating maintainers work more 🙌
Thanks Vitor for maintaining Amethyst
That's a whole lot of proof of work 😂
Y'know the whole "bitcoin only" thing came from cold card and was pushed as "we focus on fewer things and can therefore get it more right" right?
I still kinda believe the narrative, but it's fucking tainted now.
Seed in bip39 ≠ Raw Entropy. Seed in Monero = raw entropy

Was it bitcoinhackers.com or some other?
BIP39 does the same thing but implements the passphrase farther down the derivation path. Instead of at the mnemonic level it does it at the seed level
Yes it does, which is why we have some many axioms we fail to follow 😂
DYOR being one of them.
Don't trust, verify being another.
Don't trust me, but also, don't trust the guy that tells you the opposite to me.

The armor doesn’t dent. It gets pierced by the gap they left open on purpose.

It’s a coordinated effort to destroy Bitcoin.

You can see the new seed thats created in the monero GUI by restoring with your seed + passphrase and then going to your show seed section and seeing the new mnemonic that represents the offset original seed
Yeah I'm sad to say that I can usually toss a coin on retard or scammer these days. Doesn't matter I suppose. Results are the same
Actually, I believe he does.
Is his reporting inaccurate? Or what exactly is the base of your claim?
Normative people don't self custody Bitcoin. You have to be an idiot to self custody Bitcoin.
Previous idiots include the Rothschilds, Rockefeller, Cecil Rhodes, Arthur Balfour and L. Ron Hubbard and Elon Musk.
Here's the thing: the field of possibilities for Bitcoin private keys is incomprehensibly large. It's so large that if you put all the computers on Earth iterating through every possible number sequentially, they wouldn't finish the list before the universe collapsed. So if you select a number randomly, the probability of collision, somebody else selecting the same number randomly, is virtually non-existent.
The trouble is we don't select a number randomly. We arrive at our selected number deterministically. So if somebody else can recreate the exact method that you used to select your number, then they can intentionally arrive at the same number. Therefore you need to put as much irreproducible chaos in your selection method as possible.

Was at my mom’s house today scrolling old pictures and we found the pics from when she rescued an injured humming bird and nursed it back to health. She mashed up bugs into sugar water and fed it with a small syringe. Had it for about 3 weeks until it could fly again.

Nah. I think when Ukraine would be acting as stupid, they would not be able to hold ground. Ukraine definitly seems to have better intelligence over russian logistics than the other way around.

Not really.
It was a Bitcoin-only affinity scam they were a de facto part of and profited from.
