With the software and apps you use on your phone, computer, TV, and even your car, you normally get to decide what data is shared.
For example, Google may only have access to your location while you’re actively using Google Maps, unless you choose to give it access all the time. The same goes to your camera and microphone for apps like Instagram, where you control when those permissions are allowed.
Bill C-22 changes that.
The bill would allow the Canadian government to require electronic service providers to build and maintain technical capabilities that enables government entities to access data any time they want.
It'll force companies to collect and retain information regardless of a user’s privacy settings, while also prohibiting companies from disclosing it.
Practically, anyone who offers you an electronic service would be gagged from letting you know about it.
The bill also softly bans encryption, by forcing companies to decrypt all data for them. It's a massive breach against your privacy, but also incredibly reckless in weakening private corporations' data security.
The bill also requires service providers to retain metadata, like location history and communication records, for at least 12 months. They're already talking about extending to 36 months.
“Nothing to hide because you’re a law-abiding citizen?”
Maybe not for now, but maybe not in the future. Combined with the new hate speech laws, anything you said in the past can be held against you, even if it was prior to it being illegal.
This means the rules of engagement can be changed at any time, for any reason, while they have access to every little bit of information about you, your wife and your kids.
Big Brother is watching.

There’s no hordes of reply guys to insulate the popular people on here.
I can literally @ anyone on here, & they’ll probably reply.
We’re all plebs on Nostr.
It’s kind of like an accidental communism, there’s no hierarchy here.
Not in love with how that came out...but you get the gist. Hurt him a bit on my behalf

@nprofile…d4yh basically controls the Nostr narrative now.
All the other Nostr influencers post once a year if even that.
Give his speed bag a tweak on my behalf, yarny!

Glad you saw this exchange defaux. You know what to do with this one in next image...regardless of his score. 🔪

I wasn't aware that Bill Gates was visiting Congo.
Yes, spam is spam but at least give people the option to opt in/opt out of spam.
Don’t make the decision for them.
Email solved the spam problem before social media did.
But the difference between email, and social media, is people don’t have an incentive to create false reports.
On social media, there are of course enemies, and if you can you’ll obviously use moderation tools to target your enemies.
But email is different there are mechanisms of checks and balances to mitigate targeted censorship.
Yep, it has always been. We have been Nostr's test bed for more than 3 years now. :)

Oh, definitely in that case. It's when it's at the far point in my walk path that I sometimes "forget" to go back...
Since my Celtics got thrashed I'm taking this one as a relief ☘️

It's the worst feeling, especially when you get caught short a bag, but are otherwise an honorable dog poop picker upper. I'll shout at the onlooker, "I normally pick it up, I'm gonna go home and come back with a bag, I swear!" I don't always return though...and I don't think they believe me anyway.
Cool, I'm asking because I didn't know if it was a thing or not. I don't really care rather you like it or not.

That's exciting news. Won't hold my breath, and will try to just enjoy the one for now. Can tell already, only 2 eps in, that it's gonna be good. Been burned too many times before on hoping for follow up seasons to shows I enjoyed (Rubicon...never forget!)
Has anymore made zapping but just cashu to cashu not over the lightning network? #asknostr
If done deliberately, like you wait it out and scan others' scores before starting yours, then a lil bit. If accidental...nah, what can you do? Only you can know, in your heart of hearts 👀

yeah, that's the one. Thanks. Just check on damus and it doesn't create the same issue, was just on Jumble. Probably will sort itself out, but thought I'd mention fwiw.
This was a good note I'd made a mental note to return to, since I like going over the technicals of btc-related stuff here and there, even though I have seen a lot of it in various places over time.

People can do what they want with their nostr clients and if you don't like it use another one or fork their client and rip out what you don't like. This is really simple stuff.
Of course there’s good apps like Amber, Amethyst, Citrine, etc.
But ideal is to have that all in one app.
Good ui.
Most people use social media they don’t have to think about servers, passwords, media hosting, etc.
I like the open source aspect of Nostr of course but it’s just annoying to have 5+ apps just to experience a similar baseline experience, and at any given time 2 of those apps are broken.
I’ve said it plenty of times I’ll say it again.
Better timeline mechanisms similar to one per follow but more of a daily catch up, start from the first note posted today, and scroll up to recent notes, and maybe also some WoT based timeline (kind of like a for you thing).
Better NSEC/NCrypt1 based mechanism that works like traditional password recovery for keyless noobs.
Of course this won’t fix all of nostrs problems but it will shrink the gap enough to allow us to have a user base.
People want visibility, if they feel like they aren’t being seen, and posting into a void they won’t use it especially if it’s complex.
People would be better off using a journal without traction.
I’m sure there’s more problems but personally I see those as things that would at the very least help stop the bleeding.
Is this just a specific account? Do you mind sharing a screenshot or the post ID?
