Thing is, as long as you've got a few weeks income saved as cash, yeah, sure, you'd need to keep topping it up to maintain purchasing power, but if something happens, like your car breaks down, or the washing machine packs up, you've got the ability to resolve the issue there and then. No need to borrow, at absurd rates. Debt used to be a source of shame and that's for good reason. The incentive structure of everything is so screwed up right now.
