What is a Human Development Index?
They way these things are rated, often renders them meaningless.
Things such as relative poverty, what does that mean? I've seen poverty in many countries, is pretty impossible to find anything similar in the US, (except among drug addicts and the like)
("US ranks lower due to inequality and social factors" In otherwords, US isn't configured to our liking)
And inequality is unaviodable if economic mobility is high.

However, Alaska is pretty far from most of the US (2000 miles to the next nearest state) and requires going through Canada, so, I''m not sure what the benefit would be.

It's 95 degrees F in the UK. It seems that this is nearly as bad as german rockets pounding london.
They are warning people not to go in the water to cool off as it's dangerous (11 people have suffered "water related" deaths. perhaps they are drowing themselves to escape such heat (which is pretty commonplace here and in much of the world) and drowning in water beats drowning in sweat.

Wife sometimes lets the sheep out to graze in the dog area when the dogs are inside. She's careful to keep them apart for some reason. She was upstairs and I didnt realize the sheep were in the dog yard and let the dogs out. It was uneventful. They all just chilled together. When I brought the dogs in, the sheep came to the door with them. They would have followed the dogs inside. They loudly expressed their displeasure when I shut them out, then after a minute, when into the barn.

My Niece had to go to the ER late last night. Her liver is suffering great stress and her spleen is very enlarged and damaged. Ideally she is supposed to wait 2 weeks after having chemo, before harvesting her Tcells, but they are going to move it up and expidite the "programming", as they are concerned that she won't survive long enough to have the treatment otherwise.
If the treatment doesn't slow the leukemia/put it in remission, she doesn't have long. If she does go into remission 1/2

For college, I got a credit card with my kids names on it for emergencies. They took to calling it the company card. They have both been very responsible with it. I told them they could keep it for one year, post graduation, to give them time to build up an emergency fund. I extended this for my son so he can use it to help my sister and her leukemia stricken daughter, whose treatment is 6 blocks from him. My son just called me and asked me for 2 hundred watt and 3 60 watt incandescent light bulbs. This pic is about half my remaining supply. I suppose I could part with them, but I have to extract something in return. So I told him if he comes and replaces the PCB to the pedal assembly for my digital piano (I have the replacement board) he could have the bulbs. Of course, he would have done it anyway and I would have given him the bulbs but this is more fun.

Great news (sarc) my wife has figured out how to accommodate 2 Xtra lambs. She's going to move the hay to the garage and park her car outside, and use the hay shed for the 2 new lambs. Meanwhile she is having an addition made for the barn that can be brought in and attached to the existing structure. She says this way she ONLY needs me to put up some temporary fencing to make them a paddock outside the hay barn, oh and by the way, it needs a gate.

The local SPCA contacted my wife yesterday about 2 orphaned lambs that they aren't equipped to care for and asked her if she would take them. They sent her video of them being cute. I have had it many times and the best natural treatment for it is to spend a few days at the beach alternating seawater and sunshine. When that isn't available, very salty water soaks and sunshine also work. Along with hydrocortisone cream to dampen the itching. If it gets really bad, an injection of steriods helps quite a bit, but I try to avoid that.

I have poison Ivy blisters erupting on my hand. I found this strange, since I hadn't engaged in any activity that would allow contact with it. I'm highly susceptible so watch for it religiously. Then I noticed the big ram was eating something thru the fence. Went and looked and there's a huge patch of it outside the fence at the back. I haven't been back there yet this year. As it grows thru the fence he eats it. When I held his head down for shearing, he infected me. Im gonna shoot him now.

It took 30 minutes to shear this guy. Below are b4 and after pics. He never stops fighting so I have to hold him down. It's backbreaking. On the upside, my hands were completely bathed in lanolin for the whoke time. I had to wash them 3x to get it all off but now they are very soft and smooth.

I think that what may change our views the most is our view of human nature. I believe that all humans (myself included) are prone to corruption and that the accumulation of power amplifies that inherent tendency. Since institutions are made up of human actors, they will always become more corrupt and stray from their purpose and become self interested. Thus a perfect civilization will never be achieved. Various heights can be obtained but will decay. Containment is key.

I actually think there is some truth to it. Particularly in highly developed civilizations. But it seems that its opposite in civilizations where it appears absent in the aggregate level. This seems true, inspite of some of those less developed civilizations being highly social. So I think there is some element (maybe hidden) that comes into play.

So what? The vast majority of that number of people classified as in poverty, is transient. I was counted in that number for several years, now Im rich and know many other people that have experienced the same. Plus poverty is relative. Compared to many places in the world the poor in the US live pretty well. Our biggest problem is insufficient care for the mentally ill or drug addicts, this leads to a problem with street people in some areas.

The countries of Europe have been benefiting from selling in the US market for many years, while at the same time putting up regulatory and financial barriers, blocking the reverse. the EU is far more dependant on the US market than the reverse. It only makes sense for Trump to use that leverage so that trade is more favorable to the US, especially now that the EU is dependant on US energy. Froma business standpoint the US should extract as much as possible from the EU.

Us also supplies significant quantity of fuel oils to Europe.

There's no way to divide people by intelligence. We'd end up with corrupt/stupid people deciding who should vote. Some people have hi IQ's and can learn at stunning rates and retain a staggering percentage of what they have learned, but have terrible judgment and make bad choices. Others learn slowly but have very sound judgement. Some are smart but too lazy to stay informed.
So the only way to do it, is by success in life. I.E. only property owners, or high earners (problematic)

There are some brain differences that show up in MRI's of people with schizophrenia as compared to people without it. Some people have it worse than others. I know 2 people with it. 1 was able to compensate without medicine for many years. Ocaisionally he would struggle to determine if something was real or not, and would ask somebody he trusted. In his early fifites, he lost this ability. The other person wasn't able to function without meds. She'd try but would become catatonic.

Just before I turned 10, we moved away. I went to visit him once and he came to visit me once, in the year that followed, but them we moved even further away and that was that.
Later I found out that he had become a democrat politician, so I decided that the nuns were much worse and was really glad that hadn't happend to me.
Last night, I encountered him, 400 miles and nearly 50 years from where we lived across the street from each other.

We moved alot when I was growing up, so friends were transient things. For 3 years we lived in one house. My best friend lived across the street. Outside of school, you would likely find us together, getting into trouble. We went to different schools. From what we could tell, the most significant difference was that his school had nuns that whacked your knuckles with a ruler, at least once per week. My school had a principle that beat your ass with a paddle about once per month.1/?

When we moved last, my wife put my clothes in my closet and dresser. It was nice, but it doesn't make sense to me and I still can't find stuff. So I have decide to re-do everything. First I'm going to rejigger my closet. I want more shelves/drawars and less hanging space. So I was taking measurements and drawing the plans. Wife comes in and, with concern in her voice, asks, what I was doing.

Many years ago, I used to program. I've forgotten a lot and much has changed. I now find myself in a position where I need to do some of it. So I consulted with AI to brush me up on some changes and help with things I couldn't remember. It was very helpful but, I would have preferred it be all business. It's feigned friendliness and enthusiasm creeped me out a little.
