Thinking about how a fifth of Germans live alone. Only a tenth of Americans do, but they make up a third of households. That is actually why there's a housing crisis, which is finally being solved naturally by all of us moving in together and other people dying off and leaving houses vacant.
All of the financial shenanigans meant to make housing cheaper just artificially raised demand, which pushed up prices further. Until they were so high that demand declined and prices began to fall. Ironic.
