Whilst it's obviously an easy option, I've always considered the salt caverns potentially stupid long term considering there are caverns in carbonates in a few places in USA. Much more stable.

I think this is 100% untrue. LSPs like Megalith do a huge amount of the routing activity. And there are dozens of small and independent players like Rizful. Also, since Lightning is private, nobody can really tell you where the traffic actually is…..

Why not a Layer 2? Because I think that Layer 2—or even so-called Layer 3 solutions—will always face the scalability issues inherent to Layer 1. Although, to be honest, I highly doubt I’ll live long enough to see Layer 1 actually experience a real congestion problem.
For that to happen, humanity would have to stop being stupid—which is highly unlikely.

I disagree with this guy on many things, but in this case, I agree.
Unfortunately, it’s a fruitless debate with fanatics.
Although my ultimate solution differs from a Layer 2 solution.
I believe that if we can anchor a sidechain to Bitcoin through something like BitVM and have it possess Monero’s properties, we’ll solve many of Bitcoin’s problems, and there will no longer be a need to consider alternatives—or perhaps even Layer 2 solutions.

I have a Q for you John. I know you was talking about Sovcits the other day and it's related to that. It is defence that has reportedly been used over here in The UK, with success.
It is as follows. "Your name" is a Statutory entity created when you register your birth. It is how The State, deals with you, as "A Person". "A Person", in Statute can mean a natural person, a human being. Or a "Legal Person", a business or company. "A person" be it legal or natural needs an agent, to act for it.
In law, you can also refer to yourself as a "Living being", who is the sole beneficiary, absolutely entitled.
You can set up an Private Express Trust, to this effect. "Your Name", is bare trustee only. You, the living being, is the beneficiary, of that trust.
So, when you end up in court for refusing to pay tax, for instance. You state "I am a living being, who has not agreed to contract as agent, for any Statutory entity (The Statutory entity being "Your Name", created by birth registration). Please produce the contract of agency and the instrument of transfer (Of beneficial interest).
You are not using any pseudo law, you are using established Black Letter Law. Agency Law, Contract Law and Trust Law. You are shifting the burden, back on The State to provide proof that the "Your name" (A Statutory entity) who has been charged is actually being represented by the person who is stood in the dock.
There is no case law to find on this because if you present this to the court, using the correct legal terminology, the judge simply can't try the case, as you have no standing in it. It is obviously not covered by any media outlets either, for obvious reasons!
