It's a very difficult problem balancing privacy with verification but it's a problem that's important to solve. Monero has gone through several iterations over the years to solve it. The final pieces were put in place in 2022.

None of those guarantee privacy. You need sophisticated cryptography on the base layer to provide total privacy. That sophisticated cryptography as it's implemented on Monero today also allows every single full node to verify that the rules are being followed without violating the privacy of the users. If the rules are not violated then it can be safely inferred that the money supply is sound.
Privacy is the most important feature. Without privacy there is no freedom.

Lightning is not a guarantee of privacy. If you have a channel open directly with the person you are paying so the payment is not routed through a third party node that might be keeping records then yes, nobody knows when you pay this person. They can see that you have a channel with this person and see how much liquidity is in it. Even that may be information that you don't want to expose. You may not want the government to know that you're even doing business with this person.
There are no privacy guarantees on Bitcoin and that's a major problem. Without privacy you don't have the freedom to transact without fear of surveillance, government retribution, or becoming a target for criminals. Bitcoin is not good money.

Finally got back to working on Chronicle. Said I would, as soon as the weather turns. Took me a while to get caught up with where I was when I stopped, now I know and need to get the old laptop out to do further testing. Testing this new thing to establish the connections rather than UPnP. Gotta clear the chronicle relay too, loads of stale data sitting rhere from testing.
Really want to get plume moving forward again.
Plus start a third project.
Plus get my laptop set up to duel boot so I can test some Linux versions alongside Windows. Prepping and learning.
Can't honestly say this is better than laying baking in the sunshine on the beach for hour after hour, day after day, but it is more productive, I guess.
