老人越来越多，孩子越来越少——这件事正在美国数以千计的郊区小镇同时发生。2000到2024年，美国郊区县的老年人口翻了一倍多，学龄儿童几乎没有增长，很多地方反而在减少。郊区小学的一年级入学人数在2012到2023年间下降了14%，降幅快过大城市的11%和中小城市的10%。
