A useful way to think about secp256k1:
It is not the signature algorithm.
The algorithm is ECDSA. secp256k1 is the elliptic curve ECDSA operates on in Bitcoin.
This distinction matters because it makes the architecture clearer.
The wallet creates a signature from the private key and the transaction hash. Nodes use the public key to check whether that signature is valid. The verification is cheap. Reconstructing the private key from the public key is considered computationally infeasible.
That asymmetry is the point.
Bitcoin ownership works because the network can verify authorization without ever learning the secret.

Went to pick up the eldest from scouts last night and positive no one else found the “what didn’t you like about scouts this year?” Question as much funas me.

Personally I love it, don’t be dogmatic and always update core, question who is reviewing, who is paying the bills, who is recruiting? Are the core engineers trying to leave a legacy rather than put in the hours to be the unsung hero’s fixing bugs?
