For myself I have given up on having custody of my lightning sats along time ago, acutally i gave up on that idea i think i year after i got into bitcoin. Simply put: Too much of a head.
For On-chain Bitcoin, give it to me on an address I control.
For Lightning-Bitcoin, give it to me on Wallet of Satoshi or other.
I'd imagine this is most people (not talking about normies).
What now? Did LN really became expensive already?
Not going to lie, they are kinda crazy somehow. Phoenix Wallet prices aren't that bad, but unfortunately they do not support NWC :(
The problem is with zaps themselves. They already feel redundant.
Getting an account or running a node and setting up channels is way too expensive.
Yeah, it's hard. That's what we need to sell when onboarding people. They cant even receive anything before they sign up for a service.
I live in Brazil, so USA looks great to me and what they are achieving such as AI and space exploration. I guess people who live in America don't know how good they have it in there. Anyway, I'm not here to discuss politics.

So, I can choose a Rizful lightning node for $70 dollars, an Alby node for $10/mo, run my own server and spend a lot of time for about $5/mo, use a custodial wallet and sell my soul or... wait for it... use a free on-chain wallet for zaps that I don't need to do ANYTHING to set up or maintain it?

To be honest at this point I don't know who's right and who's not. All of them have their advantages and disadvantages so it's basically a matter of personal preference now imo.

China can compete with the US. China has been building a drone military for over a decade. Right now China is manufacturing 50,000 drones per month, and the US is finally talking about getting into that game.

Yes, that can't be denied, although the Chinese have also achieved a lot, and quite quickly. If they also had Taiwan's manufacturing capabilities, I think the gap between Chinese and American AI startups would become even less noticeable.
The US empire is just getting started. They aren't going to pay back the debt. They are going to rug pull the bankers, that's why the debt doesn't matter.

you can do a crude fee estimation if you know the blocksize and have the coinbase tx, and i dunno, look at the last 5 blocks, dont even know if you can ask for that type of data from peers directly but that that point you might as well ask mempool.space on the feerate and be done with it.
But in terms of additional use? Im using that header data for something else, depending on how hard i prompt you will know soon👀

Yes. We can try to make anything besides sender, receiver and amount private if we can. But those three are public and thus traceable by definition.
I agree lots of things are bad now. But that's why we have smart folks like all of you working on freedom tech, and everyone is learning and moving quickly!

Essentially by definition, a zap is a public announcement that A has sent X sats to B
Maybe you're saying something like this: "Given the constraint that the above announcement will be public, we want to optimize everything else (privacy, ease of use [especially for noobs], ...)"
The execution on an idea also matter.
