THREE NEW TOXIC PESTICIDES just hit your food, and nobody warned you.
The EPA quietly approved three forever chemical pesticides for use on America's food supply, with no warning to the farm workers who handle them or the families eating the food they're sprayed on.
The approvals, first reported by the Environmental Working Group, allow the chemicals to be sprayed directly on major food crops including wheat and citrus.
The EPA's own internal data links them to animal tumors and persistent water contamination. The approvals were posted quietly, with no notice to the press or the public.
These aren't replacing GLYPHOSATE. They're being sprayed alongside it, because glyphosate-resistant weeds have developed and the industry needs another chemical to keep the crops clear.
Every step forward on food safety seems to get matched by a quiet step back in the opposite direction.

Honestly as a kid some of it was indeed about getting out and doing some clashing with police. Cheaper than going to a show with a mosh pit, similar adrenaline.
But yea, I don't have much faith in protests without a direct action component exercising actual leverage doing much (aside from being a networking venue -- largely obsolete at that in the 21st century). Sort of like running a UASF client while not being resolved to actually dump the Bitcoin and stick with a resulting split chain if the majority don't come along (and thus eating into their bottom line). Leverage comes from action, not requests.
If all you do is say 'I don't like this' you can't be surprised when people just nod and shrug. Talk's cheap.

i’m learning we are situated in an unusual spot here. the ground is not terribly wet, but it definitely was in the past. the black willows here are 60 feet tall, and have trunks 3ft + across. that isn’t terribly common. the wikipedia entry shows the average black willow which is more shrub-ish. but we border wetlands, so they definitely have roots down to the water table.
blah blah blah, anyway, the point is, ive always noticed when walking under them, it’s unusually cool under them. like more than just shade cool. its weird. wondered if it had something to do with evaporation, as thats the only thing i know which pulls heat out of the air naturally. so, i threw a bunch of hypotheticals at AI, and it came back with:
the trees must be pretty old.
black willows that size can pull a couple hundred liters of water out of the ground per day, and evaporate the water into the air around it, creating a humidity bubble. but also acting like a giant refrigeration pump, keeping the air around the tree cooler, using the evaporation effect.

What's funny is several members of my group are board members at the Makerspace. I ask them to use their weight and they're all convinced that the central leadership doesn't like them.
