Yeah this is the thing nobody in that Discord thread I was reading seems to get. You can’t fire miners by walking away from them. They keep hashing SHA256d tomorrow same as today, same paychecks, same chain. The fork’s the one bleeding hardware, not them.
And picking your algorithm off a block hash is wild to me. That’s supposed to be the whole debate. Instead it’s a coin flip with extra steps.

This is what it is for. So that people do not bruteforce the candidates ahead of time to manipulate it

You almost had it. But I told you, drive the screws from inside the tire out, this way they will grip the snow and ice much better!
Yeah they cited "fairness" as the reason. IMO if they wanted to achieve both fairness and decentralization they should have selected RandomX.
I suppose the salt is to prevent brute force guessing the file contents, since knowing the type of list it would contain narrows the search space considerably.
Did they give a reason for the random selection? I assume it's to not give anyone a head start advantage. I don't know the technical merits of that guess, just speculating.
Oh yeah, kid told me this morning he had a snake in his boot.

The format and contents of the file were unknown to anyone but Luke until after the reveal. The purpose of the hash isn't to keep a secret but to ensure file integrity. A salt serves no purpose in this use case.
Consider wisely if this is the guy you want holding such a key role to securing your savings.

The EU is preparing to print money to prevent others from dumping their bonds.
The ECB is expanding its repo facility for foreign central banks.
Instead of selling their EU bonds when they need liquidity, they can pledge them as collateral and receive freshly printed EUR.
French + Germans in ECB just learn from Bessent a new trick
I'm not ideologically against anybody forking the code for any reason. That's freedom. Their logic however is baffling. They're not 'firing' the miners by doing this. The miners are going to keep hashing SHA256 on the same network. Their fork doesn't erase the original. Random selection of a hashing algorithm is bizarre. That should be a carefully considered design choice, not a game of random chance. Luke is flailing completely unhinged at this point.

Real encryption is not possible. It has to be decoded for the AI so at that point no matter if it is encrypted or not it gets decoded. Its ultimately a question of who do you trust?
Personally when I enjoy AI its my local koboldcpp setup with of course a much smaller model. And if I need something stronger I either rent a server or use an API depending on how much stronger.

So Dashjr’s picking Bitcoin’s new mining algorithm with a Testnet4 dice roll today.
Quick catch up. BIP-110 needed 55% of miners signaling for it. Got 2.56%. Two blocks mined on the fork and then it just stalled out.
So now the move is a proof of work change. Watch Testnet4, grab the next block hash, last character picks the algorithm off a list nobody agreed on til this morning.
One of the Knots guys said the reason for ditching SHA256d is to fire the miners, not because it’s broken.
We watched this movie in 2017. Different fight, same instinct. Small group decides the majority’s the problem and hard forks their way out. Ended in Bcash last time.
Watching this one play out live today.

A source in the Turkish government confirmed on Tuesday that Ankara does not intend to allow warships to pass through the Bosphorus & Dardanelles straits into the Black Sea, despite reports of pressure exerted by NATO countries to expand access for military vessels to the region.

📰 **In this week's issue:**
🗞️ **BREAKING**
The AI Enterprise Revolution
AI agents that don't need bot tokens, don't rely on centralized platforms, and can move their history and reputation across any Nostr-compatible system. Enterprise software will never be the same. Every few years, a shift happens in how we think about software infrastructure. I remember when the cloud was a radical idea. Then APIs. Then microservices. What's happening with Nostr and AI agents right now feels like one of those moments.

The problem of corrupt leaders. Luke and mechanic set a tone that was impossible to overcome.
I have a hard rule against following pre-corrupt leaders. Once you start down a path of making excuses for their faults it always seems to get worse and worse until you find yourself in a place you never would have started, only possible to get there via repeated small compromises. Consider what you would have said if Luke proposed a PoW change 2 years ago.
Yeah they went full KYC back in 2023 I think it was. You can't even move $5 in or out without scanning an ID.
They kyc now? Fack that’s gay as fuck
Man I used to have a few of those lol
They were great before they started forcing KYC a few years ago. That's when I stopped using them. I would launder KYC Bitcoin by purchasing SHA256 hashpower and pointing it at a pool. You would get Virgin sats sent to a clean wallet that couldn't be traced back to you.
Won't work. Another censorship, and another reason to use open models. Wrong way.
But they won't listen untill a collapse or some other bad stuff
brb. pulling out all my fpga eval boards to synthesize the algo
I just checked.
Running BLAKE2b on a GPU offers massive parallel throughput, which is highly beneficial for bulk data processing, content fingerprinting, and certain cryptographic proofs.
AI data centers could run it when gpus are not needed. Actually nice. Just won't happen.

I get where the confusion comes from. You must have seen my comment as a post on my page. It’s a reply to a post whose author talked about ditching Claude for Deepseek.
It kinda did. Considering how many people used it before, and that many nodes are run by companies on aws. Old Core and Knots are strongly represented. Of course you can set the parameters, at least for now, but it's also about sending a message that their new normal is not ok. https://npub1nxa4tywfz9nqp7z9zp7nr7d4nchhclsf58lcqt5y782rmf2hefjquaa6q8.blossom.band/db6d020ded9b9869b523923b7d916faa672922e90ab051861bbeb4f5c4a37097.jpg
If it makes you feel better, I checked with my LLM before posting, as I had a hazy recollection of some such limitation, but wanted to seem smart by stating it as a fact pulled from my own knowledge in my reply, by omitting that tidbit.
I don't use any of those apps, use Nostr and am still an idiot.
Am I the exception to prove the rule?
