The Bitcoin and Ethereum maximalist divide is not merely tribalism—it is a clash of civilizational visions, each encoded in the DNA of their respective protocols. Bitcoin is a cathedral: a monolithic, self-contained structure built to endure, its architecture frozen in time to preserve immutability. Ethereum, by contrast, is a bazaar—a living, breathing ecosystem where experimentation is not just permitted but encouraged, even at the cost of coherence. One seeks to transcend the state; the other seeks to rebuild it from the ground up, but without its coercive core.
The maximalist impulse arises not from blind loyalty, but from the recognition that these two projects are answering fundamentally different questions.
