My mum loved flowers. Her ashes will be buried in a garden, which is poetic and wonderful. Every time I see a flower, I have to think of my mum. "She would like that one," is what I say to myself. "She would've liked that one," is what it will turn into, given some time.
I was with her when she took her last breath. "I love you," is what I said. Last moment. Last movement. One last breath. She saw my daughter the day before, and she smiled. It was her last smile.
We live our lives as if they wouldn't end; as if there was no last breath, no last smile, no last anything. But there is, and that's what makes everything precious. Every interaction, every word, every breath, every goodbye, every smile.
There is a last everything. But for as long as we are, there will be flowers.
I saw a flower today. "She would've liked that one," is what I thought. And after some time, it will transform again. "She is that one."

GM. We admire excellent men and women who positively impact many lives. But if more men and women achieved this, each one would have less to do. The supply of excellence would go up while the supply of people in need would go down. Is our conception of greatness born out of the poverty of greatness our world endures? Probably. But it isn't so much the number of lives you affect that makes you great; it's really the excellence you show to the people nearest you. In a perfect world, greatness would be the everyday excellence of every man and woman uplifting those nearest to them. If we all did this, our greatest ambitions of uplifting the world would be achieved in humble daily harmony with our neighbors. Something to think about.

After a very short and sudden illness we said goodbye yesterday to our little mate Brazzle. Buried like a Pharaoh under the beautiful apple tree at the bottom of the garden alongside six other family doggos from over the years. He was my first real experience of what a dog does to your heart and your life. They are fucking great

I just had one of my strangeness with strangers moments in the grocery store. A guy got in front of my shopping cart and grabbed it to stop me. I was immediately nervous. His whole neck was tattooed, he had a huge scar that ran from the corner of his mouth to his ear on one side of his face, that stout prison weightroom type of build, intense stare, damn near a foot taller than me. He said "How are you doing? "
In the back of my mind, I was thinking this guy was either going to ask me for money, ask me out on a date, or possibly maybe mug me in the cheese aisle 😅 I reluctantly replied, "good, and you?"
He said, "good. This July weather. It's hot. How are you wearing all black?" I said I was just used to it.
He went on to tell me that he is moving to Philadelphia in August, to stay with his brother (who's girlfriend just had a baby). He said the city will be very hot because it is radiating heat. I asked if he had ever lived there before. He said yes and that he misses it. I told him that I hope it goes well. He said thanks, told me to have a good evening, let go of my cart, and walked off.
