Red Team is an effort to make it appear that all the software in Bitcoin is riddled with bugs. As I said, most of what they'll turn up is inconsequential.
It is happening in parallel with an obvious state-level attack against sovereign hodlers (Coldcard users, Lightning users, BTCPay Server users) seeking to 6102 as many bitcoins as possible.
The former is a coordinated tactic to obfuscate the latter.

It hit me yesterday that calling thin people "skinny" is kind of odd, since a fat person has more skin. But I resolved this conflict by realizing the term is likely a reference to skin-to-volume being high, so the cognitive dissonance has subsided.
Kudos to @nprofile…hs8c for having the courage and honesty to admit this. This is exactly what EVERY influencer did. The ones that just followed the crowd and didn't have business ties deserve some level of grace once they eat their humble pie.

My final thoughts on BIP-110:
TL;DR: I believe BIP-110 activating smoothly is preferable to and less disruptive than a hard fork away from the network. I hope 110 activates smoothly in the coming days, but I will not follow a hard fork away from Bitcoin if it fails. I will remove BIP-110 from my handle, admit I was wrong, and move on.
I also advise everyone not to submit transactions that are likely to be mined in the blocks immediately after activation to minimize the potential for disruption or undesired outcomes.
I went from supporting 110 to opposing it, back to supporting again. Here's why:
I've always seen something wrong with arbitrary data on Bitcoin, and I've been intuitively against the need to grow adoption through new use cases. At the same time, I really felt that Bitcoin Core overstepped their mandate by changing the OP_RETURN default in v30, and I largely agree with Hodlonaut's assessment of that saga in his article series on the topic.
BIP-110 felt like a real way to influence the network back towards one that repudiates arbitrary data and doesn't leave node developers free reign to make changes to the protocol as long as there is no change to consensus code. I was involved in early discussions on the soft fork, and started running the client when it became available on Start9.
Still, I never felt that 110 was perfect. I thought it was incongruous for every limit to be set at 256 bytes except for OP_RETURN itself, and that it would be more consistent to apply a 256 byte limit there, also. Banning OP_IF and therefore breaking some functionalities of Miniscript also never seemed ideal, and I would have preferred finding a way to avoid that. Still, a fix to avoid OP_IF in Tapscript has been produced, so it's completely possible to avoid that disruption. Compromise and attempting to better achieve consensus would have been preferable to me.
I had conversations with many people, supporters and opponents, for months. I realized that much of my position came from my industrial cybersecurity experience, and the idea for my Bitcoin cybersecurity book, Defending Bitcoin, was born. I spent 6 months writing that book, and I'm proud of it. I just released it for free as a response to the Coldcard hack. I firmly believe in the importance of Bitcoin security education, and I hope my contribution is valuable to the space. For me, no matter what happens, this book was born from 110, and I'm glad it exists.
In the process of writing Defending Bitcoin, I evaluated the consequences of forks and chain splits on Bitcoin, and what these events look like from a risk perspective. These events are chaotic, messy, and potentially disruptive. Avoiding a chain split at all costs became my overriding position.
At the same time, I saw that consensus wasn't forming. Multiple groups of opposition have formed. One is technical, objecting to disruptions to applications using the restricted functions and to the limits on scriptability. Another is more philosophical, arguing that any restriction on "valid transactions" would constitute censorship. Yet another group was concerned mostly about the implications for Bitcoin's governance, what it would mean if a minority can force a change to Bitcoin.
I currently push back against all of those categories of objections, which I'll get to in a moment, but the bottom line is that I saw serious opposition emerging. Certainly not consensus. I was writing a book on risk analysis where I argue that a chain split or a fork without consensus is chaotic, messy, and risky. That's where I pulled my support for 110, and began advocating against following it. Bitcoin Mechanic said at one point that either 110 would succeed spectacularly or it would fizzle out quickly. I saw fizzling out quickly to be more likely and less disruptive than a prolonged fork scenario.
Still, my "opposition" was somewhat half-hearted. I still agreed with the goals of 110, and I disagree with many of the arguments against it. I never stopped running Knots with 110, mostly out of inertia. But, publicly, I did not support 110. I focused on finishing my book, and I got to have conversations with many 110 opponents with perhaps more clarity and willingness than if I were a 110 supporter.
After my book launched, however, I turned back towards the 110 debate and discussion. I re-evaluated the situation, and, just as there was staunch opposition, there were staunch proponents. Just as I spoke to opponents over the preceding few months, I also met many plebs who were running 110 for one reason or another. BIP-110 wasn't going anywhere, and that realization changed my thinking.
My Current Game Theory View
The entire proposition of 110 is that the miners will be compelled to signal by nodes threatening to throw away their blocks. One option involves risk of wipeout, and the other doesn't. That's the choice miners are faced with.
There also isn't any opposition in code. No URSF doesn't mean there's no opposition, or that there is consensus for 110. But it means that miners have no side saying "I'm going to reject your blocks if you signal for 110".
Therefore, either the nodes enforcing 110 with the economic weight backing them is enough to convince the miners to signal and comply, or it isn't. BIP-110 will still either succeed or fail spectacularly and quickly. It will never catch up if it falls behind. Bitcoin isn't the longest chain. It's the longest chain of valid, accumulated proof-of-work. If the non-110 chain takes the lead and has majority hashrate, it's never giving it up.
Meanwhile, now there is talk of a proof-of-work change and a forced hard fork if 110 doesn't succeed in activating and becoming the longest chain. In the category of potential disruptions, I put that above all else.
Why A Hard Fork Would Be Bad
A hard fork off of Bitcoin would be terrible for the network. It would be centralizing in all possible metrics.
All nodes that follow the fork or turn off would be a loss for the Bitcoin network. That's a centralizing factor.
All plebs would had been mining and building their own blocks who choose to follow the fork or simply stop mining will no longer be mining on Bitcoin. That's a centralizing factor.
And, finally, all the monetary maximalists who believe Bitcoin's monetary properties need to be defended against use-case creep and crypto affinity scams who either follow the fork or decide to otherwise stop participating in Bitcoin would give up Bitcoin's governance to David Bailey, Michael Saylor, and the Core-industrial complex. That's a centralizing factor.
For all these reasons, I believe a hard fork is a bad outcome, and, therefore, 110's smooth activation is preferable.
Arguments Against Arguments Against 110
I said above that I disagree with most arguments against 110. I'll briefly state my counterpoints, just for the record.
First, the technical objections. Largely, these consist of opposition to "breaking" Miniscript, and opposition to limits on data embedding for scripting purposes. As mentioned, there's a fix to the Miniscript problem. Scripting limits is a more meta question and a bit of a philosophical difference.
Many of the developers I've spoken with want a large explore space to discover potential use-cases for Bitcoin. Murch recently described the situation as (light paraphrasing) "if Bitcoin is exciting to develop cool smart contracts, there has to be data embedding". In my view, and many others in the pro-110 camp, Bitcoin doesn't need to be "exciting" for developers. It needs to be functional money.
I attended Bitcoin++ in Vienna and was on a panel with Seedor Chris, Knut Svanholm, Matt Corallo, and Tiero, where we agreed that the vast majority of users just want to take their Bitcoin into self-custody and use it to pay for things. There is plenty of work to do to make taking self-custody easier, as we saw with the recent, massive Coldcard breach, and make medium-of-exchange better, as we saw with the shutdown of Boltz.
So, I don't agree that Bitcoin needs massive explore space on the base layer. Furthermore, I believe that practical limits are a positive security control to reduce attack surface and to reduce the viability of arbitrary-data embedding on Bitcoin. Ultimately, all security requires tradeoffs. It might become slightly more difficult to create "exciting smart contracts" on Bitcoin with BIP-110's rules, but those limits would serve other purposes.
Regarding the objection that BIP-110 threatens Bitcoin's censorship-resistance and permissionlessness, I believe that this is a total red herring.
BIP-110 doesn't prevent anyone from transacting, from moving UTXOs from one address to another. BIP-110 also does not introduce a third party you ask permission from in order to transact. In fact, Bitcoin's permissionlessness is a bit misleading. While it's true that you don't ask permission of anyone to transact on the network, you absolutely ask permission of the nodes to accept your transaction, and you ask permission of the miners to include your transaction in a valid block.
In other words, you always have to follow the rules of the protocol. And, if the network chooses to adjust those rules so that certain transaction patterns aren't allowed, you need to follow those rules in the future.
There's also a security angle here. If Bitcoin cannot roll back or restrict any "currently valid" transaction type, Bitcoin will eventually be killed by the unforeseen consequences of some future upgrade. Taproot has been in place for over 5 years, and its negative consequences were apparently after less than 2 years. More than 99% of Taproot outputs are dust. The outcome of Taproot is clear: it's primarily being used for data embedding activity that has nothing to do with Bitcoin's monetary purpose. Rolling back some of the unrestricted data embedding capability of Taproot is a perfectly valid security response, especially after multiple years.
Finally, addressing the governance question: this is the objection that convinced me the most in preceding months. Voices like Giacomo Zucco and Samson Mow have argued that the precedent set by BIP-110 would be bad for Bitcoin in the long term. That a minority being able to change the network without widespread consensus would be viewed negatively.
My response and pushback here is that users are running software. If some minority percentage of nodes running new software is enough to convince the miners to signal and comply with the new rules, then that's Bitcoin's consensus mechanism working as designed. The precedent might not seem nice, but it was entirely within the realm of possibility.
Put another way, if BIP-110 succeeds, we'll learn that there is some threshold of nodes with some amount of economic weight that is enough to get miners to comply with their new rules. If there are future soft-fork proposals that portions of the network disagree with, they'll need to object in code and run a URSF.
What If 110 Fails?
I fully acknowledge that it's possible for the miners to simply not signal. BIP-110 will be dead in the water if it maintains the current signaling past the activation point.
A large part of the argument that 110 will succeed is based on the precedent from the block size wars, where BIP-148 succeeded in compelling miners to activate SegWit. But, if 110 doesn't succeed, we will have learned that the lesson from 2017 was something different.
In 2017, the miners tried to force a block size increase on the nodes, agreeing to adopt SegWit, but only if paired with a 2x block increase. The nodes, through BIP-148, rejected that increase, and insisted on SegWit's activation regardless. SegWit has broad consensus at that point, even with miners. Later, Bitcoin Cash implemented the block size increase and forked off from Bitcoin. The nodes rejected the change, they didn't necessarily force a change themselves.
If 110 fails, it will be because the miners can reject a change proposed by a minority of nodes. 110 proponents will need to similarly conduct their own hard fork and form a new chain if they want to enforce their rules into the future.
Bitcoin will have proven its resistance to change, again. And that, I believe, is the only silver lining here.
However, I won't be happy to see many bitcoiners I respect choosing to abandon Bitcoin and follow a hard fork off the network. Many of them say that it's the rest of the chain forking off. I reject that framing. A minority changing the rules to get rid of the proof-of-work algorithm and reject all the ASICs currently mining Bitcoin is a new chain. They can say that it's more true to Bitcoin's purpose, but it won't be the canonical Bitcoin. I don't think there's any value in pretending that the outside world will view the fork as Bitcoin's successor. Engage honestly with reality.
I won't be following a hard fork away from Bitcoin. I don't know that I'll have the same enthusiasm to engage with Bitcoin from that point forward, especially if many people from the space that I respect choose to leave.
This is another reason why I'm happy that I produced Defending Bitcoin when I did. I hope that contribution ends up being valuable to bitcoiners regardless of the outcome of this fork. Even if I step back from contributing to Bitcoin education or adoption, that book will be out there.
What To Do At Activation Day
My concrete advice is to avoid transacting leading up to the activation height and through until we have clarity. I don't believe that clarity will take long. Either 110 will get overwhelming, essentially unanimous support immediately, or it will maintain its current level of hashrate and be dead in the water. That's a prediction. It's possible it takes longer to resolve. But I believe it will be quick.
Then, once we know the outcome either way, move on. Transact as normal. Either BIP-110 is in effect for a year, or it isn't. I will be turning my attention 100% to BTCHEL just around the corner, and after that, who knows? BIP-110's outcome will likely have a lot to do with my plans going forward.
Regardless of anything else, I'm going to be glad for this all to be over.

The public record now supports the finding that #Coinkite defrauded their customers.
1. The CTO authored and GPG-signed the vulnerable libngu code under the deliberately constructed switck alias, operated it publicly on GitHub and X, engaged in self-conversations between the identities, and had the company thank the alias as an independent contributor.
2. The CEO privately described a critical flaw matching that exact remote-theft vulnerability at the time the affected firmware was distributed to customers.
3. The company continued selling and marketing Coldcards as highly secure while the issue remained undisclosed for five years, during which customers generated weak seeds and later lost substantial funds.
These facts establish material misrepresentation, knowledge of falsity, intent to induce reliance through the false appearance of independent secure development, and resulting damage.

It's been about three months since I was hit by a car. I'm finally walking without pain, although I still limp and walk awkwardly. Princess Aurora seems all the way better, but I still can't walk her yet.
I finally weighed myself and I've gained 30 lbs 😭 again this is just what happens when you go from walking 5-10 miles a day to nothing.
Every times I've gained weight fast I've also lost it fast. Hopefully as I get better at walking it'll melt off me.

Phone call yesterday from a friend confirming the first @nprofile…wttc loss of funds from within our local Bitcoin network. 😢 Thankful that I was not personally affected, but it just hits so close to home.

Our biggest bottleneck is outreach. Most projects don't have a SECURITY .md in their repos (19.5%). Only 13.1% have an email in there.

Yesterday afternoon around block height 961215, I became a father. After a very unexpected turn of events a simple layed back day turned into one of the most terrifying days I have yet to experience.
Fortunately everyone is ok. Both the mother and the baby are healthy and recovering.
Last night I got to hold my baby girl for the first time. I can't put the experience into words but it was the perfect way to end the day.

There was no weak entropy fallback. Stop giving air time to air head feds. The weak PRNG (Yasmarang) wasn’t Coinkite’s fallback. It’s MicroPython’s built-in general-purpose RNG — introduced upstream in May 2018, and it didn’t enter Coldcard seed generation until the libNgU migration in March 2021. Every language runtime ships something like this for ordinary randomness (shuffling, jitter, non-security stuff), and that’s fine on its own. Coinkite’s actual design intent was the opposite of a fallback: route seed generation exclusively through their hardware TRNG and never touch the software one. Setting MICROPY_HW_ENABLE_RNG=0 was them trying to switch the software path off. The bug is that the switch didn’t take, and the symbol quietly resolved to the runtime’s default instead. So the “fallback” was collateral inheritance from their platform, activated by a link-time mistake, not a corner someone chose to cut in the seed logic.
The Great Whitewashing: OpenSats just got rid of NVKlown ten minutes ago and now theyre simping for wannabe dev influencers and irresponsibly disclosing vulnerabilites. When all this work could be done quietly with no fanfare with 0 impact to the mission.
By the way notorious NVK enabler Matt Odell is still on the board and will likely remain. Rob Hamilton is besties with NVK and would probably fellate him on site last week. You do not loathe these people enough.

Can someone explain to me why it's a good idea to broadcast to the entire world that Bitcoin projects are vulnerable?
I think the effort is worthwhile. Why can't it just be done quietly and announced after the measures are in place? All this does is paint a big target on Bitcoin project's back for the benefit of creating new influencers to backfill the ones that are going down. This is god awful opsec in pursuit of PR and self aggrandizement.

Can we maybe stop screaming how many critical vulnerabilities were found in all the projects that are being scanned are found, this is pure insanity.
Why are you painting an even bigger target on all the projects? Scan the repos, contact the maintainers privately and stfu about it so not everyone and their mom gets curious since you are so loudly proclaiming tons of vulns
Everyone is always so opinionated and loud about responsible disclosure but now that theres a "bitcoin red team" we are all screaming about critical vulns they keep discovering?
Current perspective -
They tried to crudely wrestle control of Bitcoin away from the sovereigns with the "hard forks" in 2017.
They realized that it just doesn't work. So instead this time around there's a Fabian style infestation of the space and it has become captured rather than overtly conquered.
It's very hard to defend against this because the attacks are all small enough to make any concrete pushback appear to be an overreaction.
Anyone who can extrapolate forward can see that anything that undermines Bitcoin's identity as a monetary protocol, if not rejected decisively, results in eventual death.
It's not here to compliment the dollar, it's here to replace and destroy it. Cope to the tune of "trojan horses" is now and always was self deception.
Protocol capture is real and the norm for freedom tech that reaches levels Bitcoin has.
People continue to underestimate the threat Bitcoin poses to the system and refuse to understand the lengths to which that system will go in neutering it.
I'll have more to say over the coming days as we establish whether the industry still respects the decentralization necessary to maintain our disruptive potential or if it chooses to close ranks and become a servant of the fiat apparatus currently coopting the network.

The painful lesson is that self custody is a tradeoff that doesn't make sense for most people (yet), but the reason why isn't totally obvious.
1. The fiat economy produces what people need, the bitcoin economy does not. We are all dependent on the fiat economy. You need fiat to access the fiat economy. Which means you need offramps or proxy merchants to solve a problem that only exists if you self custody.
2. Understanding entropy is hard. Vast majority of bitcoin influensoors etc don't even understand it.
We have a LOT of work to do if we want a bitcoin standard (which requires self custody). We need to produce goods and services that are in demand and unavailable within the Fiat economy for there to be a reason to even consider it.
We need to figure out self custody primitives that can be learned as easily as using a kitchen knife or driving a car.
Some of the most advanced people in the space can't get self custody 100% perfect (if you were worried about your corn for more than 3 seconds after hearing about cold card then you're not doing it right). That means we have a BIG problem if we expect normal people to self custody.
We also need to stop being priests acting as middle men and create better pathways for ordinary people to have a *direct* relationship with the Protocol and figure things out for themselves, that's the whole reason the whitepaper was published on that particular date.

In this regard, Greg Maxwell is right: use general-purpose hardware and software that has been reviewed by thousands of pairs of eyes, such as Bitcoin Core.
But this means you’d have to use at least a 2-of-3 scheme with four computers—three of them offline—and digital backups. Plus, the computers should be from different manufacturers and run different operating systems.

I'm quite amazed that there was zero reporting on legacy media about the ColdCard disaster. Normally they jump on any negative Bitcoin news.
My only guess is that they have such a huge alergy to speaking about self-custody that they won't even mention it in a negative context.
Or maybe they just don't understand what happened...
That makes sense. I’m mainly exploring how far we can push agents beyond simple task automation — toward systems that can understand context, choose the right tools, execute multi-step workflows, and improve from previous interactions.
Right now, I’m especially interested in developer workflows: coding, debugging, research, testing, and coordinating multiple specialized agents.

Powerful founders and executives build public identities around freedom, privacy and Bitcoin, while the technical systems and incentives of the companies they lead tell a more complicated story.
There are many more examples hiding in plain sight, but the scale of the money and incentives makes exposing them extraordinarily difficult.

Hello fellow Bitcoiners,
It’s been nearly one week since my wallet was drained.
I lost my entire bitcoin stack, presumably the most in the entire attack - an amount I’m more than embarrassed and ashamed to even admit publicly. This was not only my life savings but my time, energy, hardcore conviction and identity after 13 years in this space.
I am posting pseudonymously as I’ve always preferred to stay out of the spotlight - and privacy (inspired by Satoshi) is something I value. I debated whether or not I should say anything at all, but after much deliberation I decided it may be beneficial for other victims who are struggling.
While this incident certainly forced upon me the darkest days of my life so far - I have now accepted it and will slowly put together my life again. I came from nothing and did everything right (except rolling the damn dice apparently 😅). I stayed away from trading, exchanges, shitcoins, ICOs, NFTs, false prophets, etc and quietly and consistently built up over the years through all the ups and downs - never spending frivolously on material goods but instead using bitcoin as my sense of freedom and security - with the hopes to pass it on to my future children.
Even though that peace, freedom and security is now gone - I am beyond grateful for the journey and life that bitcoin enabled me to have.
To all the other victims, as cliche as it is to say “it’s only money” - true wealth, as I’ve learned over and over again is in health, family, and friendships. I’d be lying if I told you I’m not afraid of the uncertainty ahead, but I know by taking one step at a time it will be possible to rebuild. Trust me if I can come to these realizations, you can too! The hardest challenges in life make us stronger and turn us into the best versions of ourselves - don’t give in to the hopelessness. By being in this community you are apart of something special that the majority of the world still hasn’t realized yet. It’s still early!
Thanks to all the wonderful people in the community I’ve been DMing over the past week - your kind words of support mean the world to me and helped me start to believe in myself again.
To the hacker: you still can do the right thing here and come clean - you have prompted a serious wake-up call that has brought the community together which will bring more resilience for the future. Doing the noble thing now will prevent a lifelong hunt.
To all the amazing bitcoiners who have jumped to action from the very beginning to support each other and mitigate further damage - it’s been a beautiful thing to watch.
To the @blocks team and especially @intangiblecoins, your efforts are inspiring and provide me with hope. Believe me when I say that IF I ever get my coins back you will all be taken care of very well, along with massive donations to the open source community.
For now I will withhold any judgement towards @nvk and the @Coinkite team - while I’m still processing this loss and dealing with the gravity of building my life up from the ruins - I have 0 anger or resentment. Bitcoin security is a tough job, mistakes are made, and lessons are learned by all. I made mistakes by trusting and not verifying as well as not having a more robust security solution so the responsibility must be shared, hindsight is 20/20 and even though it’s tough: I’m okay admitting that. Bitcoin humbles all.
Having said all that… I’M NOT FUCKING LEAVING!!! I will start building a new stack from the ground up like all the other plebs as my conviction in Bitcoin is even stronger today then when I got my first coins in 2013.
This was never about the money - it was always about the revolution, and that can’t be stopped. We will win.
Let’s keep our heads high.

Had the Cybertruck drive us to the hospital this morning after breakfast with our son. Spent several hours with our daughter in NICU then clanky drove us back home, where we picked up our son and my mom for a family Steak n Shake run in the CT. After some time chilling back at home clanky drove us back to the hospital again this evening for a few more hours with baby girl (she’s doing great and mama is a freaking rockstar). Just arrived home now. Tired but happy. It’s funny how quickly wildly new things become normal… And the fact that clanky drove us everywhere made the hours Carla and I spent in the truck together feel like a futuristic date. Feeling extremely grateful and blessed right now. Carla is recovering, baby girl is getting stronger, and our son is overjoyed to have us both back home (especially mama). Not taking anything for granted right now. It’s been one hell of a journey to get to this moment… but this moment is pretty wonderful.

It’s been nearly one week since my wallet was drained.
I lost my entire bitcoin stack, presumably the most in the entire attack - an amount I’m more than embarrassed and ashamed to even admit publicly. This was not only my life savings but my time, energy, hardcore conviction and identity after 13 years in this space.
I am posting pseudonymously as I’ve always preferred to stay out of the spotlight - and privacy (inspired by Satoshi) is something I value. I debated whether or not I should say anything at all, but after much deliberation I decided it may be beneficial for other victims who are struggling.
While this incident certainly forced upon me the darkest days of my life so far - I have now accepted it and will slowly put together my life again. I came from nothing and did everything right (except rolling the damn dice apparently 😅). I stayed away from trading, exchanges, shitcoins, ICOs, NFTs, false prophets, etc and quietly and consistently built up over the years through all the ups and downs - never spending frivolously on material goods but instead using bitcoin as my sense of freedom and security - with the hopes to pass it on to my future children.
Even though that peace, freedom and security is now gone - I am beyond grateful for the journey and life that bitcoin enabled me to have.
To all the other victims, as cliche as it is to say “it’s only money” - true wealth, as I’ve learned over and over again is in health, family, and friendships. I’d be lying if I told you I’m not afraid of the uncertainty ahead, but I know by taking one step at a time it will be possible to rebuild. Trust me if I can come to these realizations, you can too! The hardest challenges in life make us stronger and turn us into the best versions of ourselves - don’t give in to the hopelessness. By being in this community you are apart of something special that the majority of the world still hasn’t realized yet. It’s still early!
Thanks to all the wonderful people in the community I’ve been DMing over the past week - your kind words of support mean the world to me and helped me start to believe in myself again.
To the hacker: you still can do the right thing here and come clean - you have prompted a serious wake-up call that has brought the community together which will bring more resilience for the future. Doing the noble thing now will prevent a lifelong hunt.
To all the amazing bitcoiners who have jumped to action from the very beginning to support each other and mitigate further damage - it’s been a beautiful thing to watch.

For now I will withhold any judgement towards @nvk and the @Coinkite team - while I’m still processing this loss and dealing with the gravity of building my life up from the ruins - I have 0 anger or resentment. Bitcoin security is a tough job, mistakes are made, and lessons are learned by all. I made mistakes by trusting and not verifying as well as not having a more robust security solution so the responsibility must be shared, hindsight is 20/20 and even though it’s tough: I’m okay admitting that. Bitcoin humbles all.
Having said all that… I’M NOT FUCKING LEAVING!!! I will start building a new stack from the ground up like all the other plebs as my conviction in Bitcoin is even stronger today then when I got my first coins in 2013.
This was never about the money - it was always about the revolution, and that can’t be stopped. We will win.
Let’s keep our heads high.

Revolut recently banned using GrapheneOS without any justification. They're falsely claiming to do be doing it for security reasons. In reality, they're enforcing licensing Google Play. Revolut doesn't enforce security standards. It runs on Android 9 with no patches since 2018.

**Security Update**
ZEUS infrastructure is temporarily offline following a cybersecurity incident that occurred within the last few hours.
The attack has been mitigated. Out of an abundance of caution, we are keeping services offline while we conduct a comprehensive audit of all systems before restoring operations.

On survivor's guilt, freeze states and getting your head back after the Coldcard entropy bug.
I've been talking to everyone in bitcoin the past 6 days and i keep having the same conversation. Flat, wired, running on three hours of sleep. Our people are rekt, even those of us who weren't explicitly rekt by the exploit.
This wasn't just a bug, it was a belief-system failure. (claude came up with this line, but fuck is it true)
Psychologists call what just happened "shattered assumptions" the world is basically predictable, effort gets rewarded and if i do the right things i'll be ok.
Our version was something like self custody done while following guides from educators in the space is safe. Cold storage. Air-gapped bitcoin is safe and if that's my setup then i can rest easily at night even as the fiat world burns around me.
This entropy bug completely inverted that assumption and turned a lot of our world's upside down over night. The people hit the hardest weren't degen leverage traders. They were the careful ones. The prudent ones. The ones who did everything right. The ones who did the homework. Bought the "right" devices. Followed the guides.
In the past few days i have been in contact with many of those affected. Their stories are heart breaking. These are the best kind of people. Honest, decent, moral, hard working family people. Saving for retirement, or for their children. After talking to them all day Saturday in DM's and on audio spaces i sat alone in my office and cried. I haven't really cried like that since my father died.
When good people's prudence and conscientiousness gets punished your brain's entire model of "how to be safe" throws an error. That error is what we are feeling right now.
The Five Rooms (This next section written by Claude)
"Survivor's guilt" is the phrase going around, and it's real — but it's one room in a house with five. Figure out which room you're in, because they need different things.
1. You lost funds. You're grieving. Yes, grieving — grief isn't reserved for death, it's the response to any major loss, and years of savings qualifies. Layered on top: shame and self-blame. I should have used multisig. I should have known. More on that below, because most of that self-blame doesn't survive contact with logic.
2. You dodged it. Wrong device, right quorum, moved coins in time, pure luck. This is survivor's guilt proper: the ugly whiplash between thank God and why them and not me. Relief that feels obscene. It isn't. Relief and compassion run on separate circuits — feeling one doesn't cancel the other.
3. You recommended the thing. The guilt of having pointed people toward the blast radius. What I'll add here: guilt and shame are different animals. Guilt says I did something wrong, and it's useful exactly once — as fuel for repair. Shame says I am something wrong, and it's useful pretty much never. It makes you hide, and hiding is how all of this gets worse.
4. You haven't checked yet. You know the wallet is there. You haven't opened it. Every day you don't, it gets heavier. That's not laziness or cowardice — that's freeze. Keep reading.
5. You're just watching. Nothing at stake, can't look away, feel insane for being this rekt by it. You're not insane. Researchers studying the Boston Marathon bombing found that people who consumed hours of coverage a day showed more acute stress symptoms than some people who were physically there. The feed is a re-exposure machine, and you've been running laps through other people's worst day for a week straight.
Fight, Flight and Freeze
Fight could look like: Double and triple checking everything, Glued to the screen for minute by minute updates. Hunting for more bugs like the bitcoin red team guys. Literally fighting on X or Nostr. I personally am in fight mode right now. Though i don't know who or what to fight so it's essentially a lot of wasted energy if i'm being honest.
Flight could look like: "i'm selling everything". "i'm done with self custody". "i'm done with all of this". "fuck this shit who needs this in their life". it's an urge to just get away from everything related to bitcoin once and for all. I have many friends in flight currently. Some even panic selling their bitcoin. While i don't believe that is the optimal strategy it's hard to blame them and i would never pass judgement on people stuck in flight.
Freeze could look like: Not checking the wallet. Not making plans to have someone else get to it if on vacation. Lying awake neither restful or in a state of action. If you are stuck in a state of freeze and you know there's something you need to check or do... please go check. Will yourself into action. Tell a trusted person and enlist them to help.
These are psychological states, not character flaws.
How to unstick yourself (written by Claude)
The unstuck protocol
1. Sleep before decisions. Non-negotiable. A week of broken sleep measurably degrades judgment and emotional control. And this week, degraded judgment is the attack surface: the phishing wave is already here — fake security updates, fake migration tools, urgency everywhere. Panic is what they're farming. If a message makes your chest tight and demands action now, that's the tell. No irreversible moves — no migrations, no seed ceremonies, no market decisions — on no sleep. The coins can wait twelve more hours. Mistakes can't be unmade.
2. If you're frozen, borrow a nervous system. Can't face checking your exposure? Do it with someone on the phone. Pick a time, pick a person, do it together, then stop. Bounded, witnessed action breaks freeze better than willpower ever will.
3. Ration the feed. You already know everything you need to know today. Check twice a day at set times. Doomscrolling isn't vigilance — it's re-exposure wearing vigilance's costume.
4. Audit the self-blame. Poker players call it resulting: judging a decision by its outcome instead of by what you knew when you made it. "I should have known" — should you? Did anyone? You made a reasonable call with the information available, the same call thousands of careful people made. Bad outcome, defensible decision. You don't get graded on information you didn't have.
5. Convert guilt into repair, then put it down. Help one person migrate safely. Boost accurate information. Warn people about the scams. Then stop. Guilt that doesn't convert into action just becomes acid.
6. Say the real thing to one human. Here's Bitcoin's cruelest catch-22: the opsec that protects your coins isolates your grief. You can't tell your coworkers. Maybe you haven't told your spouse. The normies would just laugh — magic internet money, told you so. Psychologists call this disenfranchised grief — loss you're not allowed to mourn in public — and it's exactly why this community has to be its own support network. Nobody else can be. Find one person you can tell the truth to, even if the truth is just "I'm not okay." Unwitnessed grief doesn't process. It just sits there.
When it's more than a rough week
All of the bitcoiners i know affected by this are very stoic, extreme personal responsibility types. These are the type of men and women who take on the weight of the world and i am proud to know them, but... If two weeks from july 29th you still can't sleep, can't feel anything, or the thoughts are getting dark that's past the do-it-yourself line.
There is no shame in getting help. There is no shame in putting down the weight of the world and asking others to carry it with you. Financial trauma therapists exist. This is literally their job. And if tonight, or tomorrow gets genuinely dark and you don't see a way out please call someone now and not later. The protcol survived. Make sure you do too.

Check on your bitcoin friends
The loudest people this week are not the ones i am worried about, it's the people who have gone silent. Send the DM "You Good bro?" It costs nothing. We have a moral duty and obligation to reach out to everyone we can.
We are going to survive
I'm known for being an optimistic character around the bitcoin community and that hasn't changed, but the weight of this tragedy has hit me hard. The story of bitcoin in my mind is the story of the little guy, the person who the system is rigged against finally being able to protect themselves against that system. When a billionaire loses 10 billion or makes 20 does it really matter?
But when a family was able to save 100k and it is ripped away from them through no fault of their own? It is simply too much. Bitcoin will survive, self custody will survive. Let's make sure me, you all our fellow bitcoiners do too.

I don't have any reason to believe given the data available that @nprofile…qy52 or @nprofile…zslp had anything to do with the #Coldcard heist.
This post, if anything, merely reveals that NVK might have had a Freudian slip when telling Odel that the 4.0.0 release was compromised in such a way that he could "steal all your Bitcoin" even without physical access to everyone's coldcards.
In other words, the suspicion that NVK knew about Peter's exploit increases.
Odell and Marty recommended Coldcard for years, in bad judgment, and have owned up to that.

The Cold Card hack is totally unsurprising to me. Most people experience the personalities through a screen. When you really interact with them you understand: The Ten31 crowd has been acting like a cartel for a long time. All they care about is their bags. They pick winners and losers. Arrogant. Contributing very little in the form of chit chat but expecting a huge chunk of the pie. Acting like celebs.
The tears we saw from Odell today are crocodile tears. They'll go back to their multi millionaire lifestyles. They're just sad that their influence and rep is forever tainted so they won't make as much off of them.
I really hope the plebs can see the game now and look at things in a more skeptical light. This cleansing has been a long time coming. The space needs new voices. Soul searching. New ideas. Less arrogance. More building. More open minds and diligence. And less complacency.
I'll finish with this: I am encouraged by what I've seen and personally experienced with bitcoiners helping one another through the crisis.

We talk a big game about Code is Law, but the law of the land still has a badge and a tow truck. You can build the most decentralized, encrypted, onion-routed app in the world, but you aren't going to code your way out of a property tax assessment, vehicle registration, business taxes, etc.
Real talk guys....is opting out even possible while still owning assets in the physical world? Or are we all just comfortably hypocritical? 🧐
Most of us are just buying time with our continued compliance. Paying every tax bill on time to avoid the find out phase. Code allows us to build parallel systems, but until those systems can provide physical security and infrastructure, the tax man stays winning.
Stop larping like the state doesn't exist just because you have a lightning node.
